Well, my second attempt to have the tips procedure was postponed on Monday.  Suddenly, out of the blue on Sunday morning I woke up with severee nausea and diarea.  My husband took me to Northwestern Memorial Emergency room where I was later diagnosed with ANOTHER urinary infection.  They put me on intraveneous ciproflaxin which and admitted me. Thank god it wasn't my kidney stones acting up again.  I was released last night.

So am starting from scratch again to reschedule the tips, my doctor's appointments and scans.

My Meld is back up to 16 due to my bilirubin, and INR.  My creatinine was .6

They stopped my first attempt at TIPS in November because of the amount of contrast they had used to navigate my complicated liver veins.

Frustrated and currently on hold.

Dear Susie Frustrated,

Sorry to hear there is yet another glitch.

That seems to be the norm around liver disease. It never quite stays in one place for two seconds. One week my hubby is too high in this or that and the very next week too low. How to manage???

He's been waiting as in pt for 2 days for a Cardiac Catherization. But first his INR was too high. Then his albumen was too low. Then his sodium was too low. Then he had a transfusion. Then IV albumen. But alas...no cath. He needs to have one before he can get on the transplant list. But we'll have to come to the hospital again...2.5 hour drive from our house! Oh my.

One step forward, two back.

Susie, I know how frustrating this must be, but you are not alone as you see.  I've been fortunate with my labs, only once being denied an MRI with contrast because my creatinine was too high.  That's when I decreased my diuretics from daily to twice a week and that's where I remain. 

I hope your infection clears up soon and that you will again be able to go ahead with scans, etc., and get your TIPS procedure done.

Susie, If you are not on auto immune drugs or have any immune disease you can take acidolphilis, one daily to replace the bacteria balance to prevent UTI, yeast infections and intestinal issues. Our TP team allowed it pre transplant only, it is live bacteria such a active yogurt, priobotics. Its also used by cancer centers as the treatments strip your body of the good stuff too. We need a balance of good and bad bacteria to keep a healthy balance. You can buy it at Walmart etc.... it is the cheapest at Walgreens as they always have it for buy one get one so 10$ gets roughly 2 months, when Doug was in the hospital they supplied it for him.
