Emma, what a great Christmas this is going to be, with his 90 days (3 months!) of sobriety. Try to focus on the positive. Not drinking is the very best thing he can do for liver health. As I've mentioned before, cirrhosis cannot be reversed, but it can be stopped in its tracks or the progression slowed. In 1993, I didn't have cirrhosis. In 2007, I did. However, I'm fairly certain I had it for several years prior to 2007, but had no biopsy after '93 until '07. And I'm stable. And I have hep C, as well. The fact that your husband doesn't have HCV is a huge positive. You have to remember that for others here who post about their loved ones, there are other issues such as continued alcohol use or hep C. Think about Rick who was in the same position as your hubby and how much progress he has made by staying sober and watching what he eats--plus keeping a positive attitude and a sense of humor.
We have a great saying in AA: Don't should on yourself! (I should have gotten him to the doctor sooner, I should have done this or that.) We did the best we could at the time. As Oprah says, "When we know better, we do better."
Hugs,
Connie
