Question about lactulose ? Does it stop working as ESLD progresses ?

Wondering if anyone knows if as ESLD progresses does the lactulose not work so well with EH ? He is faithfully taking it and getting the expected results in the bathroom, but seems to still be a little out of it mentally.

It's possible that the dosage needs to be increased. Also possible that he needs to be taking Xifaxan in addition to Lactulose.

Hello estabr3333, In my husband's case. It stopped working. Then we found out my husband had a staph infection. So they did prescribe Xifaxan. Once he started taking Xifaxan along with the Lactulose he didn't have another encephalopathy episode.
