Had some time this morning to have a quick look and see how you are getting on.  I wanted to give you an update on my mum.

Now I am starting to see glimpses and hopes for our relationship. She has been 4 1/2 months in a rehab unit in the hospital, where they were excellent. She was only meant to be there for 6 weeks, but her health had been so bad they just could not let her out. The staff there, were excellent, for once I got a proper understanding of how her health is. Just recently she was transferred to a nursing home that specialises in brain injuries. as her memory is really bad, her sense of time is away and also she is still unable to walk without her zimmer. She needs constant help when washing and going to the toilet. This place is supposed to be well known for helping people get back into society. This will be her last chance, her best chance at recovery. She is still very weak in fact I would say she is more poorly than she went in. She still has a lot of pain in her hip (the one she had replaced) and her foot is still dragging. we had her out on xmas day, it took my son and my husband to help her get into the house. She is not aware how long she has been there. But she looks happy to see me, her personality is slowly changing...I feel a little hope for us.

As for alcohol I have not mentioned it in a long time, she has not either, she does not admit to being in there because it, just blames it on a stroke. So I do not know if that is her finally finished with it. My only fear is now might be too late for her, she has done a lot or irrepairable damage to herself and there is a strong possibility that she might end her life in a home.

I have not posted for a long time, But I want to thank everyone who have helped me by posting their advice and kind words. I have major issues in my own household at the moment with my teenage daughter who is having major attachment issues due to her adoption,, I have sought help from outside agencies for this to help us all as a family. I just wanted to say that I have appreciated all your help, thanks

allie it is good to see you posting. i am glad your mom was in a rehab and it seems she is off the alcohol which is good but it may have given her irreversable damage. only time will tell. i am sorry you are having problems on the homefront. just take it day by day. i was just thinking about y ou/

Hello Allie, good to hear from you. Glad that your mom has quit drinking and is getting help. Glad you are finally seeing a difference in your relationship.

Hope your family life straightens out. Teenagers it seems sometimes need more guidance than the little ones sometimes. Hang in there.

Allie, it's very good to hear from you and to know that your mom is still sober.  That was a good decision they made in the other place to keep her for 4 1/2 months.  Hopefully, even if she ends up staying in the NH, you will have some semblance of a relationship that you hadn't had previously.

I commend you for seeking outside help with your family issues.  Best of luck to you and yours.

Thanks for the update... and nice to see you again.. raising teenage girls can be difficult... I'm on my fouth... she's 16... and it doesn't get any easier...seems tougher in today's world... sounds like you are balancing many things in your life..... take care ... glad you stopped by.. Sandi

I can only stand by and watch to see what unfolds. This site has taught me that anything can happen and each situation is completely different. My mum took a bit of persuading to go into rehab,but since then she has been through so much. Doctors there are not convinced that she will not drink again, but what I do know is she cannot get the chance to drink, where she is and the longer she is sober the better chance she has.   I always thought that one day she would run out of luck and we would find her lying dead in the  house from yet another fall, now there is a good possibility that she could end her years in a nursing home.  Lets face it she has been strong enough to came through what she has, so without the alcohol abuse, less complications she could live for a long time. So it really is quite sad in a way. She has worked hard for many years of her life should be in a very comfortable position .  she is very tearful most of time, I know she is full of regrets about her position now although, I am not sure she is fully aware how bad it got before hand. I have learned am still learning not to get myself involved too much.


Thanks Connie for the advice on outside help, which we have applied for.I knew we were having difficulties these last few years, but I had my gran to care for as well as my mum to it took over, although that was never the intention. Now I am taking the time out for myself and concentrate on my own family.

I am hoping to stick around and post from time to time, maybe my posts can bring some hope or clarity to others in the same position.

Allie, I am especially glad to hear that you have reclaimed your life.  It helps that you are no longer dealing with the drama of her drinking.
