"You're correct about taking the human spirit into consideration." I've found that nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants pay more attention to how I feel and my physical conditions. My transplant surgeons are more into the "just the medical facts." I have found that discussion here and on a transplant forum has provided more information about quality of life issues. Surgeons tend to feel that they fixed the mechanical problems, what's the big deal if your hair is falling out, or you're itching like mad. I don't put them down as that's what they do. And, just because nurses couldn't do my transplant surgery, they are every bit as important as the docs. I look at everything online and speak to those who have already had a transplant for peripheral information. That's why I'm here. If what I've been through can help others, then I am here for you. There are several people that help way more than I do. The 3 moderators, Rick and others do the same. We all have had different experiences to relate.

Whoops - didn't finish my thoughts.  My family is still in touch with the transplant doctor, a year later.  He became such a part of our lives, as did the nurses and the other doctors involved.  I think part of it was that we really educated ourselves, we were there all the time and asks lots of questions.  When my mom was going in for the transplant, I asked the doctor if he was well rested and ready to go.  he looked at me kind of funny and I said "that's my mom you are taking in there...she is the only one I have."  The nurses all laughed, because they had heard that from me for weeks....I'm not sure why, but the staff really wanted everything to be good, really listened to us, tried differnt thinkgs when mom was uncomfortable.  That gives me peace......
