Fluid between liver and right lung

 Had my quarterly check up on 12/02/2010 and my doctor scheduled an Ultrasound of the Abdomen, a full hepatic bloodwork on 01/04/2011 and a sigmoidoscopy on 01/06/2011, because of internal hemorhoids that have bothered me the last few months. He called me Friday 01/07/2011 to tell me that the ultrasound showed fluid between the liver & right lung. He said pluerisy, but I do not have any loss of breath or pain when I breathe. I think it might be fluid around the liver. My doc set me up for a walk-in X-ray this Monday. I was curious if anyone experienced this and can tell me what it might mean or what is expected? The X-ray will tell alot more, but I am anxious what it might be. have not posted in awhile. Besides the fluid diagnosis, my weight has dropped to 185 from staying on 80 mg. of furosemide & 200 Aldactone for over a month straight. My doc wanted me to stay on the meds to clear up the ascities. I think most of it is gone. I still have pain and tender areas under the ribs , mostly in the center and left side, sometimes on the right side. Hurts when I laugh, go figure. Well hope everyone is doing well. Doug had the same problem with fluid and not always with shortness of breath or pain. They didnt do anything as long as fluid doesnt infiltrate the lung. They said if it gets in the lung then they will remove the fluid. He never had to have it done though as it would resove itself.

Thanks for the feedback. notsotuff, I was wondering if you had pain when you laughed in your diaphragm or upper abdomen before the pluerisy? My pain started after they got the Ascities under control in March or April 2010. A chuckle is O.K. but if the laughter is hysterical or the uncontrollable type. It hurts like hell. I read only 5 or 10% get pluerisy or thoracic problems which usually happens after the clearing of Ascities. I never heard of this word or new how to spell it....Ascities. Sounds like a Greek Mythology name. Anyways I got a call from my hepatologist after my chest x-ray and he wants to perform a procedure where they insert a needle in the area between the liver and the right lung or the lower right lung lobe to get some fluid to examine. He said it would be alright if it is fluid from my liver, but if something else, he would have to chase it down more. I am still waiting for the mail to find out the date. Hi Mike my dads main problem has been the ascites when he was in the hospital the fluid kept building up around the right lung and his breathing was labored so they put in a chest tube and they were getting more then two liters per day, and the fluid has been on and off again being infected. They had him on diuretics which did nothing, and finally had to put in the Tips shunt which seemed to work, and so far he seems to be having success with the shunt. One of the main side effects of the shunt is going into a coma, and memory issues, though my dad has had none, so if this becomes the route they want to go give it a try they can always close it off, so hopefully this helps a little, I am not real knowledgeable about liver issues, this is just the main problem he has had lately, and what they have done to fix it.
