Hubby's labs came in this morning.

PT INR 1.3
Bilirubin 2.4
Alk Phos 109
ALT 21
AST 45
BUN 10
Creatinine 0.74
Albumin 4
Platelets 146

These are improvements in the INR and Bilirubin and Albumin. The others moved a little bit in the wrong direction from the last set 2 months ago.

Appt with hubby's GI tomorrow.

I know...and they are so much better than when hubby first got his cirrhosis dx. But, I keep hoping, praying...that they get right back to NORMAL! Still learning that this may be his new normal.

Also, doctor(s) or web research don't say how high is high...how out of whack a test can be and still be (relatively) OK. So much to learn.

I appreciate all the hand holding. I need it. I also am appreciative of the fact that hubby is not as ill with liver disease as many of those posting on this forum. I am hoping that we got the wake up call in time to make a big difference.

Emma, don't they give you labs with normal range next to them?  I got out my last labs (done in Sept.) and your hubby is really within normal limits for most of those.  He should gradually improve, but due to his cirrhosis he may never be absolutely normal for all of them.  Labs also have a tendency to waver up and down.  Unless it's a HUGE rise or drop, I wouldn't be concerned.  He's doing the most important thing he can do:  Staying sober!

The lab does give ranges, but it is unclear to me how high is high...in other words, yes it's out of range, but is it an emergency level of out of range.

I am also trying to keep in mind how hubby is feeling and his energy levels as a good indicator of how he's doing.

PS. Hubby's GI just called me. He's pleased with bloodwork. Reminding me that hubby's liver is damaged due to cirrhosis, this may be as good as is gets...or that the bilirubin may take a very long time to ever get to normal. He says the thing to be watchful for is any big changes...minor changes are not to be a concern. I feel much better. turn

So he echoed what I'd said.  That's 2 of us!  Hopefully, that will relieve you of some stress.

Using the UNOS calculator on the mayo clinic web site that is a MELD score of 10. which is a long long way from needing a transplant. I posted earier this week that Mike's MELD was 8 in 2005...6 years ago and a lot of abuse between then and now. with a cleaned up act, he could be goooooood for a long long time.
