Hi
A few weeks ago I posted a thread about my husband as after reading some of the messages I found I could really relate to these. I found the replies very helpful and have been following the threads closely, learning all the time.
I mentioned at the time that we were of to the hepatologist today so I thought I would let you know what happened because I think I may need some support.
Hubby's blood results are really bad and have deteriorated a lot.
Basically there is nothing more they can do for him as he won't stop drinking. Like a lot of other people I have tried - and failed - everything to stop him but I have finally accepted that he is an adult and this is his decision. I have been through all the emotions - how selfish he is, how can he do this to me etc etc - and now feel that all I can do is just be there.
He has also quite a history of falls and in the last week has broken his shoulder and his wrist which really makes live complicated.
He is currently jaundiced, has swollen legs with a rash and has some confusion. He has had two TIPS, of which the last one seems to be working as his ascites has not been too bad for the last few months. The banding of the varices which was done about six months ago also seems to be working.
I suppose I just have to keep looking for the symptoms to get worse.
I know things will get hard and can only hope that I can cope.
Thanks for listening
Val
