Hep C and Marriage

I will be getting married soon and now wondering if I can infect my wife. How do I find out what the risk are? Thanks again.

There is very little likelyhood of transmitting Hep C via sexual contact.  I have been with Mike for 31 years and he was infected 40 years ago...sooo...

We have never used condoms.  Ever.

We do not, however,  share toothbrushes or razors. And we use the same sexual precautions one might if one had herpes...no touching parts if those parts have a sore or wound.

I keep surgical gloves at home in the event I need to don my nurse cap and perform first aid.  He doesn't mind. And he is pretty accident prone...the usual cuts and bruises. And changing dressings for this or that over the years.

I have been tested for Hep C every few years, and, so far, nothing.

I agree, Hepmom.  However, I recommend it as an option for anyone who is overly concerned about the possibility of either spreading or contracting it...for peace of mind, basically.  I personally have never required that my partner use condoms in the 18 yrs. since my diagnosis.

I researched this issue quite thoroughly when I began my relationship with Mike...which was 7 years in length... I went to the Family Planning Clinic... just for information... I was told a person with Hep C who has one partner is at virtually no risk to pass it on.... UNLESS there is a situation where blood to blood transmission could take place... and I was advised about "rough" sex... etc... I was also told those with multiple partners had a higher statistical risk...based on the Family PLanning Clinic's statistics.. that's all I know about it...
