Hi, Krista! When there is a lot of edema in the legs, it hurts like crazy. There's massage for it that helps. Using a lot of lotion, you start at the top of the feet and using your thumbs, gradually push down and up, moving the fluid upward towards the knee. Do it one leg at a time. It provides some temporary relief.
The things to watch for in the labs are bilirubin, PT, liver enzymes, creatinine, and INR. However, labs don't always tell the whole story. My liver enzymes, for instance, were never above the low 60s, even with liver cancer
As far as the bleeding, if he gets a cut or some other bleeding injury, pressure must be applied for several minutes before putting on a bandage. I always use Neosporin on the wound, too, to prevent infection.
I agree with the others about the potassium and quinine for cramps.
Hugs,
Connie
