turn    I talked to PA today, and due to the diuretic problems my husband has been having, and the symptoms related to that, kidney failure etc., his TP coordinator said his MELD score went up 5 points, to a 22, and that although everyone is different, she expects it to go up rapidly in the future. We were told to make sure the VA here in Tampa Bay has his travel arrangements together. Things are sounding positive!! smilewinkgrin

The new diuretic, new to us, is Tolvaptan 15mg. It's $177. per pill!! He is going in to be tapped in the next 48 hrs. If this becomes a regular thing, once a month or more, they are talking about putting in a plurovac cath., for easy draining.

What a day this has already been!! I'm exhausted!!

Debbie, This is all new information, a new Med I don't know about and a new procedure I don't know about.

I want to look those things up. This is how our community gets educated on improved treatements and protocols.

Thanks...and I bet you are TIRED. The caregiver is in a hightened state of attention every second.

I hope he is comfortable as all this unfolds.

Here's the info from Rx List.  Brand name is Samsca.

SAMSCA™ (tolvaptan tablets ) is indicated for the treatment of clinically significant hypervolemic and euvolemic hyponatremia (serum sodium < 125 mEq/L or less marked hyponatremia that is symptomatic and has resisted correction with fluid restriction), including patients with heart failure, cirrhosis, and Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH).

Also, this should only be given in a hospital setting.

I found Plurovac or Pleurovac to be an automatic device/catheter for draining fluid from the chest (as in pleurisy), but I suppose it could be used to drain belly fluid, also.

Deb, I got the call with a MELD of 22.  So things are looking good for him.

thanks for the info . . we will be doing bloodwork thursday . . in 3 days and then again in 2 weeks to stay on top of the sodium serum/dehydration issues.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for TP in the next 6 months. PA does them with MELD beginning with 24 and thru 32, unless there is an exception/special circumstance. They want bloodwork every month now, with the anticipation of it rising quickly. So, . . . meanwhile, I'm trying to stay positive, working P/T to keep the house out of forclosure, and making alot of trips to the VA!!

Yes, correct about special circumstances.  I went from a 7 to a 22 when the liver cancer was discovered...and now another 3, so am at 25.

Thanks all of you for the positive encouragement. I went to the website for Transplant waiting list, and put in my husbands criteria and there are 4 people in his criteria awaiting at PA VA . .one has 30 days orless wait time, 1 has 3 -6 mos wait time and the other 2 are 1 or more years. since the TP Coordinator said to get the arrangements for travel ready with the Va here, I think my husband is the 3 -6 month person.!! we shall see!!

Deb, yep, it sounds like it will be very soon.

They are doing the same thing with me at Mayo:  Blood work and urine and f/u consults with my TP Coordinator and a transplant surgeon every month!  My next ones, if I don't have transplant by then, are Nov. 16th and 17th.
