Al is being discharged from rehab on Dec 15 ...so excited that he will be home and get to feel fresh air ....he's basically been in hospital since April ..as excited and glad to have him hone ..I know it will be crazy ...dialysis 3 times a week and several follow UPS with docs so this should be interesting.......he is not walking much but was able to walk 48 ft the other day with walker ...my dad built a ramp to help get him into house with wheel chair ...next week I have to spend a few days training on transferring him and taking care of him ....hope everyone else had a great weekend !,

At last!! Your family will be so glad to have him home. And Sl, what must be going through his mind? Relief, joy, and likely some trepidation about being on his own.

GREAT news, Elle! Very encouraging! Be sure that he continues the PT exercises that he has been doing in rehab, and tries to walk a little every day. This is how he will regain strength. Has diet been mentioned? With me, they are stressing high protein. Basically, every meal and snack should have some protein, as the body needs it to heal.

I'm sorry that he has to go to dialysis....very tiring. When patients get out from it, they generally are weak and cold. Perhaps down the road, the number of times he has to go can be decreased.

Just be sure to get some rest before the 15th, as you will have a lot on you when Al returns home.

Elle, what a great gift in time for Christmas . . you and the kids having Al back home!! I am thrilled for you. Connie is right about what you will have to deal with when he is home, so rest is very important.

Thanks guys ..rest not sure ...trying to get everything ready for him to come home and working as much as possible because I will have to stay and take care and assist him hopefully he will get stronger ..He is on high protein diet and several muscle gaining supplements ect......And yes guys it's a great Christmas gift to have him home for the holidays ..he has missed so much this year. I know he is so ready to get home to me and the boys . We miss him and our everyday life ..this will be the first step to getting it back.  Hope everyone is doing well

Yes Dec 15 .....on the 13 and 14 th I will train to make sure I can take care of him ect .....and getting him in and out the car and bed ...ect ....hopefully it will be easy for me

Elle, that's right...you said the date in the first post. Sorry. Transferring and assisting is not difficult. I think you will do fine. Of course, Al is going to be weak after being hospitalized for so long, but will get stronger in time. Do you have everything you will need for him at home? Transfer bench, shower chair, walker, bedside commode that converts to over-the-toilet commode? I've been using that last one since my first hip surgery in '02, as it has arms and is high. I still use the shower chair, too. If prescribed, the VA should pay for all of these items.

Not much longer now....
