Eye sores,extreme inflamation/hepc cirrhosis linked?

Hello to everyone. I havent seen anything on HW about this or posb. have overlooked? I have a problem from time to time with my eyes swelling and having fluid sepage from the eyelash part of the lid. It can come on if I slightly rub my eyes the next day or so and leave in a few more. Dr. gave me a Rx ointment but cant tell if it even helps. She didnt tell me if it is related to my liver cond's.
I dont get the sleep that I feel that I need. I wondering if it might be stress related. I do have alot on my mind all the time,family,disibility etc.

I can't say I've heard of this being a liver related problem , Maybe allergies ? Guess most anything is possible considering the liver is a complicated filter system , Once it's damaged to a certain point it's possible anything can get into your blood system and create havoc .
Your doctor gave you no idea of what the condition was , but prescribed a ointment ? Given your condition I would be paying more attention to detail from doctors , What can be a common infection can turn for the worse with a compromised immune system .
As far as depression being part of this disease , I would believe it walks hand in hand . Two things have been life savers for me : Staying busy as possible and a low liver impact prescription drug called Lexapro . If I remember correctly it simulates or triggers a natural chemical in the brain that normally fights off depression or anxiety . Lexapro doesn't have a generic at this time and if you don't have insurance it is costly , I believe it should be going generic very early next year though .

Welcome to the forum.

My suggestion on the eye thing and cream is to do the following type searches on google:

cirrhosis and swollen eyes
liver disease and runny eyes

look up the cream she gave you and it will say what condition(s) it treats

then google

that condition and cirrhosis
that condition and liver disease

etc.

Worthit, do you have fluid retention problems? If so, it could be fluid seeping out through your eyes, though I have honestly never heard of this nor have I experienced it myself. Therefore, I doubt it is liver related. Do a Google search, though, as ML suggested. And find out what the ointment is and what it is for.

Regarding sleep issues, most everyone with liver disease has them: Sleeping too much or having days and nights mixed up, interrupted sleep, etc. If you are stressed out and have a lot on your mind, that would contribute to it. I take a combination of 20 mg of Flexeril, 50 mg of Trazodone, and 25 mg of Benadryl to help me sleep (all okay with the transplant team.) If I'm tired enough, I can eliminate 10 mg of Flexeril and the Benadryl. Be sure to mention your lack of sleep to your doctor and see what he suggests.

The Rx is Neomycin,Polymyxin b. Its a Antibacterial-corticosteroid. Didnt find exactly what condition its prescribed for. It's strange to me that it would be a bacteria issue since it clears up for a while and then returns. Mostly appears when my stress or pain levels are high. Just thought if it was linked to any liver conditions that the kind people here on H.W. would let me know.
As far as the fluid retention, thankfully I hadnt had any problems with the ascetes or edema in over a year!
I had mentioned my sleep issues with my Dr. and she prescribed Ambien. Worked great for a little while. I dont know if my body has adjusted to it but I only take it every other night. Last Dr. visit I was prescribed Omeprazole CR (acid reflux). Told her that the Ambien wasnt working any more and she said that after I got the reflux straightened out that the Ambien would help again(didnt). Thank you so much Connie!

Worthit-great news about no fluid retention issues in over a year! I am sorry that I can't offer anything regarding the weepy eye issue. Let us know what your doctor says about it. Did you find anything on google?

 Yeah googled it and its a type of antibacterial to help prevent infection. Think its basically like a cortizone ointment used in the eyes and another type is used for the ears. Probably used for a wide variaty of issues. Thats why I thought about asking about it here. Thinking back I had gone to the eye Dr. about 5yr. ago and felt like I had a peice of sand-grit in my eye and he told me that it was a type of herpe in the eye! It wasnt anything like this, it only hurt. What I have going on now is swelling,reddness of the lid and a clear fluid coming from the lid. Its fine right now but it will be back. As soon as Im able I will be going back to my optomitrist. Thank you!!!

Worthit, it does sound like a bacterial issue. It apparently goes into remission/lies dormant for awhile, but then is triggered by something (stress?)

Ask your doctor about Melatonin (OTC) for sleep, or Trazodone. You will build up a tolerance to most anything...but especially Ambien.
