cirrosis of the liver with hepatitus c combined

my son has hepatitus c and cirossis of the liver,he has had chimotheraphy last year, he was progressing now both diseases  are present again, he is sick and has pain,he suffers with it a lot,the only thing he says to help the pain is booze,can someone out there tell me if he can be cured of such diseases ? i dont want him to die,please help me find a solution for him.thank you all kindly.

Gnybsll, welcome to the forum. I have to tell you that drinking alcohol is the absolute worse thing that your son can do to his already damaged liver. I don't care how much pain he is in (normally hep C and cirrhosis don't cause liver pain), he MUST stop the alcohol. It is the alcohol that is probably causing the pain. Is he being seen by a hepatologist (liver specialist?) If not, he needs to. However, as Mr. Ziffle said, they will consider it a waste of time if he continues to drink and will not do much (if anything) to treat him. If need be, he should go to detox. After that, AA meetings every day, if possible. This is going to be required before he could get a transplant.

Unless the alcohol caused your son's cirrhosis, it is a result of hep C. Apparently, the treatment he did was unsuccessful for very long (known as an unsustained viral response.)

Cirrhosis isn't reversible, but it can be stopped from progressing by abstaining from alcohol, eating a healthful diet free of red meat, and generally keeping a healthy lifestyle. The hep C will need to be treated again. There is a new treatment available now, that has a much higher success rate in people with genotypes 1a and 1b.

I had both cirrhosis and hep C, along with liver cancer, and received a transplant Oct. 27th of this year. However, I had not had a drink of alcohol in 25+ yrs., so that was never an issue.
