Ugh new issue al' s white blood count is extremely low so tomorrow on our one day to rest ee will have to drive to transplant hospital to do more blood work and get a injection...then she said we will likey have to do same Thing on Friday ...but we already have appt from 8-4,....so I guess we will have to cancel pt/ot and drive to transplant hospital super early to do land and injections again ......if not transplant coordinator said ee would likey have to go to er were we are not high priorty ...and somehow make it back for his scheduled dialysis time ..its almost impossible ...I am being spread way to thin and the poor guy is just so exaused ......hopefully we will get over this hump ..nothing to day is seeming to go right ..my paycheck got messed up and ect ....murphys law I guess ..well calgon is about to take me away ....

Elle, enjoy the Calgon and get a good night's sleep. I have been at that point more than once during my pre and post transplant journey. There were times I just didn't think I could make it another day. I also had to rearrange things at times. You will get through it. But don't forget to eat and rest when you can. Ditto Al.

Gosh, this is a lot to keep up with.

I can't believe he has to go all those places.

BUT, I am sure he is glad to be home even if it is hectic.

I will be thinking of you and your hubby tomorrow and spending strength your way. You can do this with the idea that you can relax for the weekend. You go girl.

Yes we r glad he is home ..the boys are out of school and holiday sure isn't make this any easier but glad he is home for Chrisrmas as he has missed pretty much everything else this year ..and yes carol thank goodness for my parents ..they Are the greatest

Are they giving him neupagen injections? For white cell count? When Mike was really low in 2003, they gave us the shots and we gave them to him at home...that would sure be easier on you! See if they will. Or if insurance will cover at home. Or have a home health aid come in. YOU have an awful lot of places to get him. He must be exhausted also!

Yes they are giving him that ..I'm not Sure if our insuranand she said it takes a few days insurancewill pay for it at home and I hate needles but if its on going we will have to look in to that ..I asked about home health it takes a few days to set up

Elle, the needle is short, more like insulin than a flu shot.  He could almost do it himself.  One less place to cart him to.  Those shots are really expensive, so go with whatever the insurance will pay...we had to self pay for a while and they are like over $1000 per injection!  But they work.

Now we're back to the same old, same old. "I hate needles." Who doesn't, but you do whatever it takes to stay healthy, or to live. I gave myself shots every week for a year (interferon) and several times, doses of neupogen. It isn't a big deal in the scheme of things. Be glad these drugs are available to help you.

Well, it's her husband, David, but yes..you do what you have to.

When I first tried Interferon for the hep C, the insurance company balked at home injections...said I could only be covered if they were done in a doctor's office. (This was back in '93.) It was 3 x a week and the drug was intended for self-injection with pre-filled syringes. So the doctor straightened that out and they covered me giving them to myself at home. On another occasion, I had to give myself blood thinner injections daily for 6 wks. I bruise wherever I'm injected, so I was quite a mess. However, as Carol stated, the needles are so small and thin that one doesn't even feel it. Of course, in my case, I would get flashbacks to my IV drug days, which was more unpleasant than the actual shot. But if we want to be healthy and live, we (or our caregivers) do whatever is necessary.

I also agree that giving Neupogen injections at home would be best, if insurance will cover....more convenient and one less place to have to go.

He had his second shot today and from yesterdays injection his white count doubled ..so that's good we go back for labs and transplant doc and I guess we will see where we stand ..thanks guys ..have a great weekend

Glad that those shots are working.  Hope that today's tests get over quickly and that you can be back home enjoying each other.
