HELP - what do I do for stomach cramps from ESLD?

I was diagnosed with ESLD in Sept of 2011.  For the first time today, I have severe stomach cramping after eating a light chicken pizza.  Also, I have had episodes of diarehha without warning resulting in an embarassing accident.  I am recently Dx'd with ESLD, Depression, Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, Vertigo (Meineires), and Afib.

The cramping could be from chicken, the pizza or some other food and may have nothing to do with your other conditions. Diarrhea when you have ESLD I understand. I had problems with sudden trips to the toilet, even before taking lactulose, though drinking syrup pushed it to new heights.

Welcome to the forum, Mr. B. I doubt that any of your stomach complaints are related to your diagnoses. I'd suspect the chicken.

Thanks for the responses David and Connie.  My body is changing so quickly.  Not sure what to make of it all except that I feel scared and without direction.  I am not in a formal treatment program because my ESLD alcohol induced and the docs won't refer to transplant program for few more months.  In the meantime, I am supposed to find a job!  Ha!  No physician has mentioned disability yet while I retrain to sit behind a desk near the bathroom trying to stay focused enough to answer my email and phone. 

What do I do about disability?  Brian

Mr. B, go ahead and request and fill out the paperwork for SSD. (Call 1-800-772--1213.) Write TERMINAL ILLNESS on the last (blank) page. Obtain all the medical records that you can. SS will do that for you, but to speed up the process I'd recommend getting them yourself. Make copies and send them along with the paperwork. If you are denied (most everyone is the first time), retain a lawyer...preferably not one who advertises on TV. The one I had was also a criminal lawyer. Be sure to list all your diagnoses and medications.

Hey all: Think I figured out what my stomach problem was. I ate a few breath mints and drank a diet coke. Any feedback?  (other than that was stupid!)

Best thing you ever did was find us... listen... stay sober... get a support person...if you can.. come back often... so sorry to hear you're dealing with this awful disease... Sandia

Hey, welcome to the forum. My hubby has ESLD and has always eaten pizza with no problems, but over the last year, since he became really sick with ESLD anytime he ate pizza, same symptoms as you. Only took twice and he just quit eating it, wasn't worth it. We never did find out why, but doesn't matter, he just eliminiated it from the list of "things he can eat."

Good luck with SSD..don't give up, it will feel daunting I'm sure. Keep at it. Also...just a note of support...this disease will be hard enough on you without drinking, so glad you gave it up...Feel free to vent here. SSD application will be frustrating.
Keep in touch with us here. We are all struggling with this disease in some way.

PS: I and Hubby have dealt with embarrassing moments from surprise attacks of p--ping, as I would guess most here with ESLD have and we just have to make it into a joke,,,,because it WILL happen,,,especially once you start taking all the meds to create BMs. We have many funny stories...(Funny now, not then). We always travel everywhere with spare tote with change of clothes, wipes, and plastic bags..Tote just stays in the back of vehicle. But...I am sorry it occured for you...it always puts a bit of a damper on the day.

I read these posts to my hubby and he said to write this to you:

"For about a year I had stomach pain and at first I thought it was from what I ate, then from a
small hernia, then from over exerting myself. Once I went to liver specialist
he explained that the pain in my LEFT side (stomach) is from my spleen and
is a result of the cirrohsis. Liver doesn't work, fluid backs up into spleen, which
enlarges spleen and it hurts. This is the pain I deal with now daily and the pain
that I take strong pain killers for. It started out that I could handle the pain
without meds, now I can't. The pain comes and goes and is not consistant."*

   Under my rib cage is very tender to the touch, especially when I push in on my upper stomach and sides. I have very little Ascities or fluid retention in my stomach area but my hepatologist said it was the fluid causing the pain. My spleen is much larger than than The norm too. I also get muscle cramps when I bend down. my stomach muscles just stick and it is very painful.

     I got the S.S.D.I. within 3 or 4 months. Make sure you get a note from your Hepatologist or liver doctor about your ailments. You will need all medical records and discs from M.R.I.'s, Pathology slides if you had a liver biopsy. I got copies of everything before my appointment with the Social Security office but the doc's note is very important.

The doctor's note should also say that you can not work at any job.
