MUM GOING DOWNHILL -PART 2

Hi Guys

Feeling so down, depressed and worried. From Friday mum is not doing well at all.Doctor said that the infection has become stagnant although her antibiotics are finished the cellulitis is still there.He said that the infection did spread to the liver.Her body is not removing the toxins and its going to her brain and now she is having seizures.

He says that he is sedating her only when she gets the seizures but can not give her any meds to stop it from re-occuring as the meds are too strong for her liver.

Over and above the sedative she only sleeps.From friday she has been sleeping day in and day out.She hasnt eaten only drinks fluids but breathing gone very very heavy.

She is not responding to anyone of us. Last night she only had 2 sips of tea.I am really really worried,

I know she is very sick as the the doctor put it he is "TRYING HIS BEST"

But i need to know what to expect and if anybody has gone down this road with a loved one i need to know whats going to happen next

 Cindy , It sounds as if she is passing on . A coma would be the next possibilty for her . Have you prepared to meet her wishes should she stay on a life support system ? At some point without the intervention of a miracle she will pass , The decisions you will have to eventually make will be difficult and in the worst possible timing .

Nobody wants to see a loved one pass . You have to ask yourself are you gonna cling to a unpleasent memory of a tired and withering body or will you find comfort in the soul inside that body . I am one to think that it's not a body that makes us love someone , It's in the soul . The soul is what will comfort us in the months and years long after the body is gone , Try to keep this in mind while you go through this process .

My mother in law goes to see mum everyday because I am working,she just called me now saying that she not responding to anyone and not even sipping any liquids and breathing gone very shallow.

Doctor is deciding to put mum on a feeding tube.

Does anyone know if she in a coma now?

Dont know if i will get hold of her doctor this afternoon to ask about whats going on.

Here in South Africa it would be the family and doctor to decide whats going to be the next step with regards to life support

I am so sorry. I agree with David...go to the hospital as soon as you can. It does seem like she has slipped into a coma and her organs are failing. It won't be long before she passes. I wish we could give you more positive input, but it's only by a miracle that she will come back at this point. Doctors can only do so much. I will say that I think a feeding tube is inappropriate at this stage...unless it has been decided to do everything possible to keep her alive.

I know if I were in that physical condition, I would not want to be kept alive...just a shell of my former self. It's decision time for your family regarding DNA and her wishes. Will the family's decision override the doctor's?
