New to this Forum

Hello,

Well I am new to this forum and to make long story short my journey. I am a Hep B patience here in the Washington DC area. I discover that I had Hep B since I was about 18/19 yrs old, I am now 36 still ticking and living a normal life. I've been through two liver biopsy, interferon and still taking lamivudine as this day. Even though I still carry the Hep B virus, my Doctor tells me it's in a nonactive stage in my liver. I do the daily 3 months visit as a study and 1 yr visit to my specialist. Life as right now is good or great to me, I just stay positive and knowing that I will fight this disease and hopefully it will go away one day. I would like to give support for any one that needs it, share my story as I visit my doctor and answer any questions from others.

Hi Neko, Welcome to the forum.

We are glad you found us. Many here are patients or caregivers of those with liver disease.

Many have advanced stages of liver diseases of many kinds...Hep A/B/C, Autoimmune Hep, Alcoholic Cirrhosis, Hemachromatosis, Fatty Liver (NASH), etc. Many are waiting for transplants. Some stories don't have happy endings...this is a sad week for us (again).

There is some information at the top of the forum you will find interesting.

My partner has had Hep C for over 40 years. The virus is still active even though he has had a transplant...and the virus is likely doing its evil deeds to the nice new liver! Liver disease doesn't quit easily!

Mike has never had Hep B or Hep A, and has been inoculated for both. He does not carry the CMC, but has been positive for Epstein Barr for years...with a very high viral load for HCV and EBV.

Glad to hear your Hep B is in check, and I have heard that it sticks around forever, even when the disease is inactive.

NEKO, I don't believe that your resentment, anger, etc. caused the hep B. It is caused by a virus. However, I do think that a positive attitude and lifestyle boost the immune system and prevents certain illnesses. They certainly make for a happier life.

My hope is for routine testing for viral hepatitis and ultimately a vaccine to prevent C.

I've been on medication for about 15 yrs now. I feel fine and everything, I just am tired of poping one pills everyday and knowing that these medication cost a lot. I am being positive and keeping a smile on my face. Glad to hear your doing well..

I just found out about a hep C cure that is be with held from us. It does not use Interferon or Ribavirin in the treatment. Bristol-Myers Squibb has a drug calll Daclatasvir and Gilead Science's has a drug call Sofosbuvir and when they are taken together we are getting 100% cured and it only has mild side effects. But Gilead Science does not want to work BMS because Gilead does not want to split the profits. Gilead has developed a drug of it's own to replace Daclatasvir but it doesn't work. It's called GS5885. We all can help put pressure on Gilead to stop their corporate greed. Many of us do not have years to wait to find a cure without side effects.



The cure works on non responders, newly and old diagnosed and all genotypes!
