Went to PA for the one year anniversary Feb 8!! There are some concerns about
sugar/diabetes and kidneys. He never had a sugar problem before the surgery and for about
6 months after. He took Gabapentin, and his sugar shot up so high it wouldn't register on his meter. Now we are dealing with up and down and no reason for it to be going crazy . . it seems like the fast acting insulin is taking 6 - 8 hours to bring his glucose level down ??!!The TP Dr's are concerned. He was in total kidney failure before surgery and they were worried the kidneys would not come back, but after a few days they did. He has to see a specialist, Gland specialist, Endocrinologist, soon. The Dr's were all so pleased with his recovery, they said they don't want it ruined by kidney failure down the road.
It was a good trip, for the most part. After we got done at the VA in PA, we went to OH and had a family get together. We met up with a couple we met at evaluation, and he had surgery about
a week before we left in 2012. His 1st liver didn't wake up . . 2nd one is fine tho. They met us and my family in Geneva on the Lake, and there were 27 of us at this wonderful place . .took up about
1/2 of the dining room!! It was fun.
take care . . Angie . .I'm praying for your continued strength!!
