Hepatitis B:Need Help!!

Hi,

My friend is suffering from Hepatitis B and is in bad state. He got treatment and after some time he got checked up again but the reports showed that the virus has increased more.
Can anyone tell me what does VIRAL LOAD 3,652,243,113 mean?? His reports showed this. Does this mean he has alot of viruses? He doesnt know mucb about this disease and I want to help him.

Someone pls tell me what good medication is needed to treat this disease and has anyone gotten rid of this?
Are there any risks of the injections?
Pls pls help!

Hello Sweet and welcome to the forum.

The viral load you speak of tells the doctor how many replications of the virus are in a single drop of blood. Higher viral loads are sometimes indicative of liver cancer and or cirrhosis, both very serious conditions.

Is your friend in the United States? What type of doctor treated him and what treatment did he receive. Yes there are probably a number of meds he should be taking but much more info is needed.

What are his symptoms? Is he confused sometimes, have swollen belly, or jaundice (yellowish skin)? Do you have the results of his blood work or any other tests? How long has he known about the hep b?

Your friend needs to see a specialist right away, a hepatologist not a family doctor or Gastro doctor. His viral load is extremely high.
Many other people will read your post and offer their knowledge and advice so hang in there while the forum wakes up.

In the meantime there is a lot of good info at the top of the this page, Hepatitis Resources", to read up on.

Thank you for your kind reply and help. I really appreciate it.

My friend has got his blood tests done and a number of other tests. I am confused about his viral load as its extremely high and I just don't know what to do nor does he know.

His symptoms are: He gets tired easily, weight lose, paler skin color, no appetite.He was put on medication but after that the tests still came out positive showing increased virus.That means the meds didn't help him at all.

And...its been about several months already of him knowing about his hep b.
We are trying to gather all the info we can so that immediate treatment can be done. And we're based in Hong Kong. (*sigh*)

I'll really appreciate everyones help. Anyone's help can be a life saver for him!

He really needs a hepatologist. I assume they have them in Hong Kong. It really impossible for any of us to help your friend, not knowing a definitive diagnosis.

Yes gather all the info and find the best hospital or liver transplant center you can find. He needs a specialist to determine how much damage is done and how to treat him drug-wise. He may need a transplant eventually depending on how far his disease has progressed.
Don't waste any time.

P.s. in the meantime tell him to stay away from alcohol completely, it's a killer. Also stay on a low salt diet, very important.

       sweet poison,   hello!  i dont think your viral load was copied correctly. the quantification range of this assay is 21 to 170,000,000 iu/ml (1.3 to 8.23 log iu/ml).  however you have a chronic infection (i have not seen your bloodwork) with escalating dna.  this is usually a sign that your virus is replicating, and you are contagious. 

       your dr. appears to be monitoring and treating your virus. your viral load at this time will be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

       if you have family and friends with you at this time, please talk to your dr about vaccinations for them.  children without B vac. are most at risk.

Welcome to the forum, Sweet Poison. Which poison are you referring to? Barry, Sweet Poison said it's a friend of his/hers with the hep B, not him/her. Generally, they treat immediately after diagnosis is made. I am not sure of the medications that are given, but believe gamma globulin or interferon. We see hep C more here and I'm personally familiar with C.

One thing is clear: The friend needs to see a hepatologist, preferably at a transplant center.

hey i also have a concern, i got the following results, please help me understand them?
hep b surface antigen- positive,
antibody to hep b surface antigen- non reactive and hep b virus e antigen- non reactive.
the hep b virus dna-13,049 copies/mL
what does that mean? and what is the next step to take?

Hi,

Thx everyone for your feedbacks.

The viral load 3,652,243,113 IU/ml...does it mean his virus is so severe that he has a risk of liver damage? I don't know how i'm supposed to tell him about the severity of his disease if it is really serious. Its going to worry him more sick!
Pls somebody help me out!
If anyone can read blood test reports then I'll ask him to give me a copy so I can show it to you here.
I really want to help him out.

the viral load is copied wrong. you are not giving us enough info. viral loads are used to diagnose ongoing infection, and for monitoring treatments. you need other tests to analyze the damage and state of your liver.

we are not drs and can only read your labs, give advice and support. what tests have been done to this point? you need a complete hep b panel, along with biopsy and imaging. how long ago was your friend diagnosed?

Hi Barry

Thx for your time spent on reading my post. However, its not me who is diagnosed with hep b. Its my friend and that's why I'm not being able to tell you the complete details about his test reports because even i dont know. He texted me his test reports which showed his viral load and a couple of other blood test reports etc.
Maybe I can type his test reports here and see if you can read them?
Any help, support, advice is appreciated.

when you copy lab tests you need to be extra careful where you place decimal points, and you cant leave anything out. i realize this is your friend, but no one can help him without knowing what is out of range.
