Olysio and Sovaldi treatment

My husband Dennis is now on the Olysio and Sovaldi treatment and doing well.

Dennis is a 1A and is at the 4 week mark today. He started with a 1,120,000 viral load and was down to 634 at week 2. He has blood work today to see where the viral load is at now. He also has Cirrhosis and that makes it a little harder to treat. So far the treatment has gone smoothly with side effects being extremely tired and dizziness and irritability . He was on all of the interferon treatment and says this has been a breeze compared to them.

We've been watching all of MamaLama's post regarding Mike's treatment, it's very exciting to see how well Mike is doing.

4 weeks down and 8 weeks to go!!

At 4 weeks Dennis is <15 Detected. We are hoping and praying for an undetected on the next blood test in 3 Weeks!! So far so good!! All other labs are doing good as well.

Thanks Carol!! Hard to believe Mike is already on his last bottle the time has gone by so fast. It's nice having someone who is a few weeks ahead of you on treatment so you can get an idea how it all works. Looking forward to your update on Mike after his next appointment!!

All is well that ends well. The skin thing was Mike's big thing too...very thin, easy bruising and sort of ripping with the slightest bump. ML

Dennis' doc appt went good. He is still undetected and will have labs done in a month. The nurse said that of all the people they have treated they have only had one relapse. So we shall wait and see how his labs are in a month. Fingers crossed it remains Undetected.

We see a big difference in his skin since the treatment has stopped but he is still really tired. It will take months for the medication to completely leave his system. So was told to still cover up out in the sun.

Hep 97.... It seems like once the treatment started time just flew by. Thank goodness the treatment is a lot easier to tolerate than the other combo treatments they had a few years back!!

We just got a call from the doctor with not so good news. The virus is detected on Dennis last lab test. So about a month after finishing treatment the virus was active again. We aren't giving up a new treatment is coming out October 10, 2014 which is one pill a day. Just kind of bummed....The doctor said he will be on the next treatment for 24 weeks and that it has a better cure rate...So we will have to wait and see. :)

We're hoping Mike has a better outcome with this treatment. So far Mike has made it passed the 1 month after treatment so that's a good sign. With all the people being treated where Dennis goes only one other person didn't clear the virus so far. His doctor told us that during trial the new meds were used on the patients that didn't clear with Sovaldi/Olysio and 99% clear on the new medications being released in October of this year which is a combination of Sovaldi and some other drug.

I'm just a little worried about how much this new meds are going to cost and is the insurance company going to go along with it since they paid out so much for the Sovaldi/Olysio.

I'm just going to live in the moment and hope it all falls into place...Right now we are concentrating on getting him healthier. His skin has cleared up and his bruising is a lot better now that treatment is done. He has lost a lot of muscle mass but his labs are good and he is feeling better!!

Hi Kathy, This is disappointing : ( Themister failed his first treatment, and had to repeat it a few years later. He was pretty derailed and also had big concerns on the costs. But the 2nd time was a charm for him. It takes what it takes! Big Hugs to you and to Dennis.
