Hi Karen...Welcome to the Hep forum. Sorry you are having some concerning liver testing.
The normal range of values for AST (SGOT) is about
5 to 40 units per liter of serum (the liquid part of the blood).
The normal range of values for ALT (SGPT) is about
7 to 56 units per liter of serum.
Your numbers are out of range (high) your doctor is looking for the reason, of course.
Here is Mayo's info on NASH (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease).
www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/nonalcoholic-fatty-liver-disease/basics/definition/con-20027761Since you don't drink, you likely will be tested for all of the hep's. (A,B, C), Auto Immune Hep and NASH, as well as other genetic things. After the testing, he may order additional tests to determine liver damage.
My husband had Hep C. He eradicated the virus, but his liver was trashed and that is why I found myself here :)
The best thing you can do is not drink alcohol, control your weight, eat a low sodium, heart healthy diet. Some meds can damage a liver, as well.
We are here for you. Big Hugs
