fariba,
Welcome to the Hepatitis forum. We are patients and caregivers of those with many types of liver disease. I am the loved one of a man who has struggled through many....Alcoholic Cirrhosis, Hepatitis C and Liver Cancer (Heptocellular Carcinoma) all leading to cirrhosis, End Stage Liver Disease and finally, thankfully to a transplant after he demonstrated he could get and stay sober, of course. We are many years post TP now, but it has been a struggle.
While he did not and does not have AIH, he did have terrible problems with itching. He tried powders and creams, but the Hep finally offered him cholestyramine. It is a powder that is stirred into water or something else....ginger ale or applejuice are often used, and drunk after meals. Some find the taste annoying, but Mike is a go along type guy and gave it a try. If he drank if after a meal, every time, he staved off the itchies for many many years. One of the docs explained that the itch is from accumulated bile salts. I don't get how that works, but the powder did the trick!!!
I have no idea how that works with AIH or diabetes, but talk to your doc, it would be great if that simple after meal drink would clear it up forever!
He did not need it after transplant. He went cold turkey (there are no side effects and no cold turkey...I was just kidding.)
Let us hear from you again.
Use the SEARCH feature on the blue bar above the posts...and put in AIH or autoimmune Hepatitis and you will find many many posts on your situation in particular.
Hugs,
Mama Lama
