Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on in a while.  Things have been very busy between my dad, and my husband and I are closing on a condo this week. Very overwhelmed!!!

We have been in and out of the city for evaluation at Mt. Sinai and Colombia.  Things are looking in the right direction and it seems they will be able to list him.

Connie, do you have a date for the hip yet?

Teresa, hows Mark... how are you?  Hanging in there I hope!

Hi Samantha, Sounds like you have a full plate!! I know you and your husband are excited about closing on the Condo. I am glad to hear they are probaly going to list your father!!

Mark is having a very unstable month so far. He was close to a coma state, on Thursday/Friday a.m. He is home now. He is scheduled for another paracentesis on Thursday. I just keep hanging in there!

I am so sorry to hear Mark is having such a tough time.  Is the ensephalopathy because he is not able to take that much lactulose.(dehydration??)  What was his MELD score in the hospital?  Is he moving up?  Is Mark on any anti depressants?  My father was on effexor but UMDNJ doctors took him off.  He is so emotional... I think that we should put him back on.  Also, did Mark do any alcohol prevention classes or counseling? 

Teresa, you and your family are in my thoughts!  I hope today will be a better day!

I am not real sure what keeps making the encephalopathy increase. The doctor thinks a infection, but the blood cultures keep coming back negative. He has had dehydration and renal problems, which I believe are the main problems. His Meld score keeps bouncing around 18-23. He was moved up on the list last week. Mark had to attend A.A. meeting for 6 months, before he would be placed on the list for transplant, he continues to do A.A. meetings which is also required. The hepatologist is not even considering a antidepressant on Mark, he is coping. He is taking lasix now, but it may be stopped all together because his creatine keeps going up.

Hi, Samantha! Good to see you here again. It sounds as though things are coming together for your dad.

I got a date of Sept. 26th for hip surgery and a schedule for all the pretesting. However, I will probably have to postpone it, as the liver surgeon wants to remove the right lobe of the liver first, if the cancer hasn't metastasized. I have been through pre-testing for that and am waiting to hear the results of that and what his plans are.

Don't forget to take care of yourself--get enough rest and eat properly, and make sure to fit in some "me" time.

good to hear from you again! im not sure takin your father off effexor is a good thing,,,was he weaned off or went cold turkey??? my hubby is on effexor and i was told when he went off it, he would have to be weaned off it,,,,,,,because going cold turkey off anti d's can cause a person to spiral down quickly,,,,and can cause suicidal thoughts,,,,,,,,i saw it myself in rick when he was in the hospital,,,,,someone didnt do their paperwork properly and he wasnt given his effexor for almost 2 days,,,,,he bawled like a baby and couldnt stop weeping( my hubby DOESNT cry,,,,,ever,,,,) so ya might want to talk to dr about puttin him back on at least a low dosage,,,take care and hope we get updates from ya when you have time :)

Hi All,

How is everyone doing?  Things are very crazy right now.  My husband is out of town for work so I have been back and forth between painting and moving in and my dads.  My hubby will be back on Thursday so things will be a bit easier then.  Good news, I contacted a therapist and got my father to agree to go.  I know he isn't crazy about the idea, but it could help him so much.  I just hope he is open about it.  We go tomorrow.  On Friday we go back to Mt. Sinai... so far it has been a wonderful experience.  I hope that continues.  We will find out where we stand with the cardiac. 

I hope everyone is doing well.  Once things calm down I will be able to spend a bit more time chit chatting.  Warm, happy thoughts to all!  Thanks for the support!

Hi, Samantha! Thanks so much for stopping in and updating us. I hope your dad will open up in therapy, too. It could really help him to deal with his feelings.

Hi Samantha, I know this post is a bit late... How did the therapist meeting go and the trip to Mt. Sanai? Hope things are coming together with your move!! Hopefully you can get some rest soon!
