Pink Grandma,

  I am so glad I found you.  well,  I think I did.  Anyways, my dad was at end stage liver disease in July and I emailed you in the forum then.

  As of September 29 and 30 he got a new liver and kidney.  He had to have  2 surgeries cause he  bled out 40 units of blood.  In addition, he has had a total of 6 surgeries.  He is still on a ventilator and has a trach.   He is finally starting to be a little more responsive, but still is not opening his eyes as much as we would like.  I am amazed at how long it seems to be taking (2 1/2 months).  We are anxious to have our dad back.  I hope you are doing well.

Shven, I am glad to hear that your dad received a transplant. I will pray that he gets well soon. Take care of yourself.

Oh Shven, I have been wondering about your dad. I am glad that he had his transplant and I hope he starts doing better soon. How are you holding up? I am doing better. Thanks for asking. Hang in there we all will be praying for your fathers recovery.

  I have had a stressful 2 months.  My mom is above and beyond stressed.  My twin brother is angry.  My sister and mom are not speaking and I am just trying to hold it together.  My dad was always my favorite parent and so it is extremely difficult to see him like this. I just wonder what his quality of life will be like when he does get better.  He has not been off the ventilator at all for 2 1/2 months.  we know he has brain function, but not sure to what extent.  He is a strong man and I just want to see him enjoy whatever chance he has at resuming his life.  I have a wonderful and supportive husband, and inlaw family.  I am the strong one in my biological family.  I am getting along with everyone, but that can be hard sometimes.  I guess I would rather be at peace and stick together with the family than be at odds with anyone.  I am all about family and wish mine would be more like one.  I am so glad you emailed back. great to hear you are doing well.  I think you are strong person given what you probably went thru with your husband.  I hope you continue to do well.  Be well.  Keep in touch.

Shven, I'm glad to hear that your father got transplants, but sorry to hear that his recuperation hasn't gone so well.  Unfortunately, the longer a person is on a ventilator, the chances for weaning off of it become slimmer.  That is where quality of life must be considered.  I do hope your dad improves.

Pink Grandma,

   Things were good about 3 weeks ago and the doctors were trying to wean my dad off of the ventilator.  He was responsive and followed commands for physical therapy.  He even mouthed words.   However, he still has not been able to walk in almost 4 months. 

     Unfortunately, he got an infection in his lungs and abdomen and was running a high fever.  They switched some anti rejection meds around and now he still has an infection, can't be weaned and needs full support.  He is extremely out of it and barely responds.  I feel like we have taken 1 step forward and 10 back.  My dad is not a person and just supported by his machines.  I know that I have to keep the faith and at times that is difficult.

   My mom is a wreck and just wants to transfer him to a different hospital.  I am doing okay, but have realizations that I can not just pick up the phone and call my dad.  I miss him like crazy.  Patience is a virtue and I am beginning to get impatient.

    How are you doing?  Thank you for checking in.  That means a lot to me!

Hello Shven, so glad to hear from you. Just wish it was better news. It has got to be very hard. Hang in there and take care of yourself and your mom. You both have got to be just frazzled.
I am plugging along. Still have some tough days but they are getting further and further apart.

My thoughts and prayers are still with you and your family.
