I don't know, but it sounds too weird to me--robots crawling up your colon.  They'd have to be attached to a line to transmit images back, so I assume you could pull them back out if they ceased to function.  Or just poop them out. 

On the other hand, they might have the potential to go much further into the colon and see more problems (such as in people with Crohn's, who can have ulcerations anywhere in their digestive tract).

WEIRD!!!

With having crohns, I don't think I'd appreciate this robot thingy attaching itself where I have inflammation, I bet that wouldn't feel too good eh!

It's interesting though, so if you don't mind, I'm going to post the link at the CD and UC forum, I'm sure after reading it they'll all think along the same lines as me with the inflammation issue...it's sure to make them all squirm at the thought of it LOL!

I already feel like there is something sticking and pulling in my colon but I usually refer to it as Gremlins.  Don't know if I would take too kindly to this centipede looking contraption!

I already feel as is something is in there, tugging and pulling too! Which reminds me of when I was pregnant both times, from the time the baby would begin to kick. Although there's no baby in there now! Just a colon with a mind of its own now.....LOL

Thanks spasman, that does look creepy weird eh!

I got in trouble for posting Keri's link on the CD forum for "cross-posting" and I tried to find this in the forum rules but couldn't....does anyone know what the mod at the CD forum is talking about because I've always shared posts from the CD to the UC to the IBS forums in the past and it was never an issue before?

I don't see why cross-posting information, so long as it's relevant on all the boards, should be a problem.  I mean, I don't have Crohn's or UC, so I'm never on their boards.  Yet I've had a colonoscopy, so if they post colonoscopy info over there, I wouldn't mind seeing it here; heck I think everyone here has had one or is scheduled for one! 

The whole point of this site, I thought, was the sharing of information.  That doesn't happen if individual forums are close-lipped with what they know that may affect other people on other forums.

pb4, You are not in trouble, it was just a bit confusing as it was a research and development article and Colon Cancer was mentioned throughout the article.

No skitt, ivy never mentioned there was an issue about the article, just about me posting the article on the UC and CD forums which I talked to peter about and he said that it was fine to do so if it pertained which it does because regardless if the article is pertaining specifically to colon cancer (which UCers and CDers who have active disease in their colons are at a very high risk of developing colon cancer) it's still about colonoscopies which all of us (IBS, IBDers) have to tend to.

The article may have talked about using the robots to detect polyps--which turn into cancer--but there's no reason to think they wouldn't put it up any of our bums looking for inflammation or other problems. I think the article just assumed that the only reason why people have colonoscopies is to look for cancer. We all know THAT's not so!

I've actually been considering maybe having a colonoscopy, I'm fairly sure that my problems are post gallbladder related but I've been considering having one done just to rule out other possibilities and to know for sure. I'm soooo modest I just hate the thoughts of it. I didn't intend to have to have one for many many many more years.

Have you guys heard of the pills that you can swallow now with the cameras in them that are supposed to work as the colonoscopies would?

I was thinkin about looking into them.....

Yes, you're talking about the pill-cam, you should enquire with your GI about this option.

It's okay; I have a phobia about anyone touching my anus (I was 5 and my mother had to give me an enema... scarred for life). They put you under for the colonoscopy and they don't do ANYTHING to you until you are under. Most people are completely under and never know it's going on, while a few people drift in and out just enough that it's like they're dreaming about it (although they are actually hearing the doctor and nurses talking). Me, I was so out of it, I had trouble getting woke up enough to go home! Never knew anyone was down there.
