postitive ANA and IBS

The alkaline phosphatase is not a very specific test and elevated levels can occur in a number of situations. Unless it is super-high, it's probably worth it to get another check in a few weeks. The whole clinical picture needs to be looked at, not a specific test in isolation. Very high levels of AP can be the result of liver disease or a number of other disorders. As far as your positive ANA...that is also a relatively non-specific test and cannot be diagnostic, by itself, of anything. It could indicate there is some sort of autoimmune process at work, but again, it is only one piece of the puzzle. I would call your doctor and ask for an explanation. I wouldn't be surprised if you hear, "It could be nothing, or it could be something." And that's the truth, unfortunately. You probably need more tests, or at least re-tests, to confirm any findings.

But no, IBS would not cause either of these findings by itself. Keep us updated and don't do too much internet searching - these are very helpful tests but need to be interpreted by your physician because they take so many complex bodily functions into consideration! :)

Loni, ANA is commonly elevated in lupus.  If they are testing you for that, they might also want to check your C3 and C4 levels.  Just something to ask about!
