It didn't appear to be helping gut last I heard. It is for these symptoms caused by a slow system in the stomach, not the colon. So far the only problem I had was that I went off it for a couple days because I thought it might be contributing to my insomnia and I immediately started with the acid and gas. Of course I had eaten a hamburger and onion rings because I hoped it would still work from the day before but it doesn't work that way. It works only when you take it before a meal.

Well, I haven't been taking it every day and in fact, didn't take it at all this week because of the grueling work schedule.  But what I did observe while I was taking it the first five days was an INCREASE in the acid reflux problem.  I know - doesn't make sense.  But I tracked it for the whole five days while I was having the terrible heartburn and on the 6th, did not take it.   I did not have heartburn that day.  Or the day after when I didn't take it.  I can't really understand why but I thought I'd give it a break and try again.  Probably give it another go this coming week.

The other issue (which I discussed with Canyon) is that the med is supposed to be taken before meals.  I only eat once a day so it creates a problem for me to take the recommended dosage.  I took one early in the day, without a meal, and it really made me feel spacey and weird.  I don't know if I will even be able to reap the benefits of the drug if I can't take the dosage required.

It doesn't sound like it is for you. As for the acid problem that is very strange because it is supposed to tighten the LES valve which allows acid to backup. It sure does for me. It is still working really well. I have only taken one without a meal a couple times when I had not taken one before and I was bloated. Normally I take one about 20 minutes before lunch and dinner. As far as the spacey and weird feeling I have not heard of that. It could be that you whole system because of this once a day eating just can't handle things. Why do you only eat once a day? since you do have problems with your stomach wouldn't it be better to eat 3 small meals a day?

It's impossible.  Eating is such a painful experience.  Once food goes into my system, the gastrointestinal apocalypse begins.  I suppose if I never had to move out of my house I could eat more than once.  But since I do have to get things done during the day, I refrain from eating until I know I am in for the night and don't have to engage in any activity outside the home.

Pretty miserable, I know.

Hi Canyon,

I had an appointment with a gastroenterologist on yesterday and he is having me do a breath test on Thursday for Bacteria Overgrowth. Have you had this done? They are having great luck with diagnosing this and treating it with rounds of anibotics.

Bacterial overgrowth is all the rage these days. There's some pretty good evidence to back up its existence. The drug of choice is Rifaximin, which is an antibiotic targeted specifically for the intestine, so doesn't have a lot of the nasty side effects that other antibiotics (like Flagyl) do.

No, I have not had it done in part I think because mine is so random. Nothing like most of you have. I have had a breath test for H. pylori after I was treated for it but not the bacterial test. I don't really think that my case is bacterial related because the Motilium has helped me so much. Next time I am in there I will ask what he thinks of this test. He is big on testing so apparantly I don't fit the profile.

I had my breath test done today and it was positive for bacterial overgrowth.  The put me on Xifaxan 2 pills three time a day for 10 days.  I am really hopefully and will keep you posted.

Well, be thankful they found the root of your problem. It's so rare for us IBSers to get concrete answers... I think many of us are jealous of you. *hee hee* I know I am at least.

Did your doc mention taking probiotics along with your antibiotic? It's definitely something to consider. You're best taking the probiotic at least an hour after you take the antibiotic.

 I finished taking my Xifaxan and it has not helped at all.  I'm very disappointed and frustrated.  The doctor told me to try taking the motilium and a probiotic.  How many times a day and how many pills do you take in a day of the motilium? sad

k3728, you should really check with your doctor or pharmacist for dosage information.

If your Doctor suggested Motilium then he would know your dosage and it would be on the label. It is not available in the US but is available by prescription in Canada or over the counter in other countries but you need to talk to him.
