my gallbladder test came back

I talk to the doctor today and he said that my gallbladder test came back normal but he still wanted to take it out . I was thinking if it came back normal why do you want to take it out . He said cause i told him i was in pain with it , i told him that when i eat or drink or dont even eat or drink that my right side under my ribs and breast  it seems to like swell up and uncomfertable . When it does do that i feel it in my throat to like it swells up . I am wondering if i should ask him to run a light down to make sure its nothing else . Is there anything i can do beside watch my food intake and what i eat to take the feelings away ? would like to hear from someone who has gallbladder problem or had problems to tell me what its like so i know what to look foward to

I had a bad gall bladder for 5 years. My first HIDA scan was sort of inconclusive, the second one said I was perfectly normal and the third one said it was horrible.

I knew what was wrong with me the entire time, even if the test was not accurate. Everyone in my family knew what was wrong with me because dang near everyone in my family has had a bad gall bladder. (Genetics, ya think?) I was starting to give thought to raising enough money to pay to have it taken out, even without a conclusive test and without my insurance's approval. That's how certain I was that it was my gall bladder and how much I wanted it out.

Since having it out, the pain has gone away completely. I still have a sensitive stomach and diarrhea problems, but both are corrected with being a bit careful about what I eat and taking a medicine for the D.

I have this inkling of a theory... that maybe the longer you have a bad gall bladder, the less likely you are to be normal or close to normal after having it taken out. If that were to be the case, then doctors would probably be more likely to take them out when they have suspicions (but no tests) because the longer you wait, the worse you might be afterwards. That's what I think right now: I sure would like someone to do a big survey to see if it holds true.

If your gall bladder is indeed bad, there is nothing that will make it better. I was able to keep mine from acting up for a while by swearing off caffeine, but in the end, it got even worse than before, and that's when it showed up on the HIDA scan as being bad. You never saw someone so happy to go have surgery as I was. Even my parents were happy about it .

Yeah i want it out just to see if i will feel better but i have no insurance and it is only my hubby working since i have no job cause i stayed sick for the past 2 months . So money is real tight around here ... All this is so depressing .... My life was mormal till 2in half months ago then all hell broke lose .... But thank you for answering back ...

My surgery cost $12,000. Actually, since your test came back negative for any problems, it hopefully won't count as a pre-existing condition, which means if you can get insurance, you should be able to turn around and get it taken out. That is if your doctor can convince them that it needs to be taken out, despite the negative test result.

I hear you on the miserable and depressing. Mine went back the spring semester of my freshman year in college and was bad the entire rest of my college career, while I was living for a summer in Ireland, and then for several months after I took my first full-time job. Needless to say, I don't have fond memories of college.

Jenny - Did you have your gall bladder out? Do you feel any better? What test came back normal - HIDA scan? I am in the same boat and am having mine out next Fri. My GI has ruled out everything else and my symptoms keep getting worse. He says there is nothing else that it can be. Just wondering if you're better.

ScienceLady. Are you better now with your gall bladder out. Im really curious to hear as your simptoms are the closest to mine that ive read.

Hi,

 My tests came back normal but i was hurting so my doctor took mine out anyway. I have no longer had any  pain since the surgery. The only thing is I did have polyps in my gall bladder according to my doc that didnt show up to the other doctors. I hope this helps. It sure does feel better not to be in pain anymore!

I am totally in the same boat you are in.  I have a second appointment with a surgeon next Monday, Sept. 29th.  All tests are normal, but the symptoms persist.  I'm just about willing to do the surgery myself!
