I have been getting a lot of pressure right below my tailbone and it feels almost like a shocking sensation, anybody have any idea?

Hi sunshine, have you ever had problems with sciatica before?  Do you get pain radiating down your leg?  Sometimes that "shock" sensation can be caused by irritation of the nerve root of one of the spinal nerves...I'd definitely ask your doctor and in the meantime try to take it easy on your legs!

Does it happen at certain times--standing versus sitting, versus sitting on a toilet? Lil's idea about it being a pinched nerve sounds very likely, but how you treat it will depend a lot on what you are doing to pinch it. I don't know about you, but have very little fat in my butt, and as a result I sit on my tailbone and hip bones more than most people. Things like situps in the floor are too painful to do. Soft seating or even padded panties (if you are a woman) can help.

No I don't have pain down my leg or anything like that, if you've read my other posts I am very constipated all the time and mine seems to come more around the middle of the day, it almost like an urge to go but its not its like a shocking cramping feeling... its weird and it has only happened since I had my starr surgery for rectocele I told the dr but he didn't comment about it... its nothing compared to my other problems but I was just wondering if anyone else had that same sensation.. I too am very small framed and female I am normally about 150 lbs but am down too 105 being so constipated and nauseated all the time and I am sure all the laxatives don't help the weight issue... but what do you do....

Sunshine, do the laxatives make you go to the bathroom more? Are you losing so much weight because you've reduced your food intake drastically?

The laxative are the only way I can go to the bathroom... I haven't cut down on my eating but I am being careful as to what I eat, what goes in must come out, I am usually eating a large bowl of raisin bran in the morning then some fruit mid morning.. I then eat like a tv dinner for lunch because I was eating fast food during my lunch break at work but that doesn't work for me so I went to a tv dinner or like a subway sandwich I then eat more fruit mid afternoon and then I eat dinner and then fruit again... I can't eat salads at all they actually seem to make my stomach really hurt but I do eat like peas or greenbeans at lunch and dinner and usually eat some kind of bread with each... I do tend to snack inbetween like cookies or chips but once again what goes in must come out so I am careful about that too. I drink nothing but water anymore and prune juice that stuff is nasty but it does help sort of.

I don't know if doctor's would approve of my method to relieve constipation. It is: 5 Senok S at night and if necessary, prune juice in the morning. I have to have something that works.

Woop ... The medicine I take is Senokot-S. It's over the counter. The "S" is for stimulant and that stimulant part is important!

Wow, if I ate as much as Sushine I would weigh a ton. Where does someone that small pack all that food away?I do find that bread is constipating unless I eat a really high fiber one. I eat the Orowheat Double Fiber bread now and 2 slices is 12 grams of fiber. Works great. Sunshine, have you had your Thyroid checked. It can cause constipation and weight loss at the same time. That is an awful lot of weight to lose even with laxatives. If I go every other day I am happy but there are many people that only go every few days.

Actually, it sounds like your diet is pretty healthy, considering what most people eat these days...at least with the raisin bran and fruit and at least some veggies!

Thyroid problems CAN cause all sorts of bizarre symptoms - overactive thyroids can cause diarrhea, nervousness, sweating, etc. while an underactive thyroid can cause constipation, weight gain, coldness, etc. but most people do not have serious thyroid problems even if they do have these symptoms. There's no quick answers in medicine, that's for sure.

Although that weight loss is concerning, if you are truly eating what you listed - you should be maintaining your weight, not losing it. So you are either not taking in as much as you think you are, or you are exercising excessively, or you have thyroid problems, or you are malabsorbing food, and all of those issues should be looked at for your sake.

Go tod your doc and get a colonscopy done, you may have some problems that need to be looked at.

I could barely walk for the past three days because of pain in the Ox Coxxyc
First I have to go to 1) The pain doctor 2) The Urolgist 3) The Internist 4) The Optometrist 5) The gynecologist.
All that before I can find out why I had so much trouble walking.

Sorry I haven't been on here in a while to reply to my posts but I was only coming on when I would get email alerts saying someone repIyed to my post and for some reason I didn't get any alerts... anyways i truely eat as much as I said I did and I don't excersise due to all the pain I get in my bottom area (read my other posts) and I have had my thyroid checked that is fine. I talked to my colon and rectal dr and he doesn't seem to mind my weight loss... if you read my other posts you can see all the tests and surgeries I have had... I am going nack to the dr on the 28th and bygod he is going to do something because I aint going through this anymore... I can handle the weightloss I don't care I just want the other symptoms to go away so I can have my life back...

The above poster is correct in suggesting asking for a Colonoscopy. So many IBDers seem to be labelled as IBS, and it's really IBD.

'Tailbone pain' is commonly reported in IBD posts here and in the Facebook IBD groups postings. IBD is known to cause arthritis-like conditions. One kind mentioned is pain in the 'tailbone'.

The medical term for it is "Enteropathic Arthritis" or "Enteropathic Arthropathies/Arthralgia".


Do a search for "tailbone" here on HealingWell.com -- and the pain conditions that come up in the search results are among *mostly* IBDers (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns).

I have it too. Was initially told it was "IBS". Finally had a Colonoscopy and the biopsies showed "ulcerative colitis" cells.

Sorry you are having a hard time. I think pretty much all GI issues are just plain awful!

I really hope you do get a colonoscopy to check things out. Something is obviously not right, and you need to find out what it is. If your colon and rectal doc won't order it or try to find the answer, I suggest you find a GI who will. You just can't ignore this. I'm glad to hear that you are going to "force" your doc to do something the next time you see him. Good for you--be assertive.

Not sure if this will help you, but when I go to an appointment and I have a lot going on, I write down everything I can think of to describe what's going on. That way, I don't forget anything, and I figure that the more info I can give the doc, the better he will be able to figure out what might be going on or what he needs to do to figure it out.

Hope that you get some answers and some relief soon!
