Yes, things are very different today. My hysterecomy was done with a DaVinci robot assist (it did most of the surgery). The surgery was done at noon. I was back in my room before 4pm. I was up out of bed at 5am, walking around by 7am, went home at 2pm (22 hours after the surgery was completed). I didn't take any pain meds until I was released to go home and they insisted I take 2 pain tablets for the ride home. I had a total of 2 pain pills and 2 Tylenol over the weekend (surgery was done on Thursday). I was cleared to drive at 2 weeks, and asked when I wanted to go back to work at 4 weeks (went back to work at 6 weeks).
With my gallbladder surgery (nearly 20 years ago), I spent 4 days in the hospital, 7 days of bed rest at home, and then restrictions for 8 weeks.

Yes they should change the channel. LOL Ah but in the old days they could talk both of us into major surgery, now couldn't they? My mom had a hysterectomy because things had "dropped". She had to be very, very careful post-op and vacuumed too soon. She said she felt something pull inside and regretted wanting to clean that day. She also said if I ever have one, I should do nothing. Well, she's also from the post-op "lie flat on your back for 10 days" group too.......her exact orders when she had her gall bladder removed, in the 70s. Can you imagine doing that now? They had me sitting up within 24-36 hours after both my colon surgeries.
So I take all of this into account. I sometimes just think doctors are cut happy. And surgery isn't always the answer. I also work part time in a school cafeteria (love the job but it's very physical). I would need to schedule this hysterectomy over a long summer break.
I also have a SIL who has a more severe uterine prolapse than mine. She says she has to put her uterus back up. Yikes! But in her case, she's had 2 close relatives have dire post-op complications, one bled out and died, the other had a massive stroke is now permanently disabled. She keeps telling her GYN doc - no surgery. She had 4 very large babies/deliveries - each baby over 10 pounds. All vaginal deliveries too. My girls were small in comparison, 7 and 7.10 lbs but both were vaginal deliveries. And I still haven't been the same down there since having had children. Couple my GYN dropped inards with multiple bm's, and wow, hip to hip, navel to rectum, I am nowhere near normal!
But I do a pretty good pretend sell in my head that I am normal. Because if I admitted it, flat out, I'd be depressed as all get out.
Sometimes denial helps......okay, now I am running from the room!
Just wanted to back you all up though, why all these organs are so closely located and give us so much trouble, is just NOT FAIR!
