Hi!
I understand you are going through a rough time right now. I definitely suggest you check out a website called HelpforIBS.com (http://www.helpforibs.com/). It is a patient supported website specifically for IBS and the woman who owns it has had IBS for over 30 years. There is great information on diet, fiber, and help for IBS symptoms. This site also sells an Acacia fiber that is great for IBS-D as well as IBS-C, so if you are going back at forth between the two it will help you out tremendously. I strongly suggest you take a look at the Diet Page on this website (http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/). There is information on foods to eat, great recipes, and a link to their IBS Diet Cheat Sheet that lists out soluble fiber foods, insoluble fiber foods, and IBS trigger foods. If you are feeling super sick you want to stick with only soluble fiber foods for a few days until you start to feel better then you can start to introduce the insoluble fibers. But remember to never have insoluble fiber on an empty stomach! If you are feeling so sick that you do not want to get out of the house, you can order her products online. She also has a great fennel tea that is specifically for relieving the symptoms of gas and bloating. This tea helps instantly and you can drink as much as you want in a day. I am sure you can also find the digestive enzymes online as well, I would suggest doing a Google search for nutrition stores in you area that deliver, or try HerbalRemedies.com. Here is what HelpforIBS.com says about digestive enzymes:
Digestive Enzymes can be helpful when taken right before a meal, especially if there is more fat in that meal than is safe for IBS. Enzymes are available at all health food stores and may be of more benefit to older people, as natural digestive enzyme production declines with age.
For gassy foods such as beans, lentils, and many vegetables, there is Beano, a brand-name digestive enzyme. Beano contains the sugar-digesting enzyme that the body needs (and which some people lack) to digest the complex sugar raffinose. If you have trouble digesting raffinose the sugar will ferment in your colon, producing gas and intestinal distress. Beano breaks down raffinose into simple sugars that cause no GI discomfort. Beano is available at health food stores in either tablets or drops, and is simply taken at the beginning of a meal. There are no side effects unless you have a rare sensitivity or allergy, and the product can be used every day.
If you are able to start on a good diet for IBS, and start taking a good soluble fiber supplement, I am pretty sure you will be feeling well enough to go back to work in 4 weeks or less! I strongly recommend taking a look at this site!!
Best of luck!
