Hi! I am new to this message board and I am SO thankful to have found this thread. I thought I was the only one to suffer from this horrible, almost continuous gas! I feel so relieved (pardon the pun) to know I am not some kind of freak.
I was diagnosed IBS 2-3 years ago after a bout of the usual symptoms - IBS w/C - and a colonoscopy (normal), but no other tests. Took Zelnorm (no side effects) for 3-6 months, started feeling better and stopped. C started returning and dr. (family O.D.) said try Metamucil, etc. Did that, then about 4 weeks ago the gas started. dr. (same O.D.) gave Zelnorm again - helps with the C, but gas is STILL a big problem. I can't teach (have been out of school 4 days in the past 10 because of this). Came home from school today because it was so bad - broke down and cried in the Principal's office when I told her I had to leave (she knows about the problem). I'm staying out in the vestibule during church (when I even go), can't "be" with hubby, I am just a basket case - my clothes even smell!
I'm living on GasX pills and chewables. I've checked my diet and it doesn't seem to matter what I eat. It seems like 3-4 hours after I eat first thing in the morning the gas starts and just gets worse as the day goes on - by 6 or 7 in the evening I'm retreating to my study to protect hubby and the cat.
I have an appt. with my gastro (haven't seen him in 3 years), but not until 4/13. Is there help/hope/something/anything anyone can offer me between now and then?
Thanks for listening and for any help/advice anyone can offer.
