I have done about
5 or 6 rounds of xifaxin and 2 rounds of augmentin so far. I do pretty well while on the antibiotics but as soon as I'm off the intensity comes back. The only side effect of the augmentin has been constipation. One of my primary problems with the SIBO is diarrhea, so I give that up just to have the complete opposite happen with the pill. Its frustrating. There are only 20 or so places in the country that do the Hydrogen Breath Test. I'm not sure where you live but I had mine done at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. My doctor is Dr. Mark Pimentel who is the expert in the field of SIBO and has written a book called "A new IBS Solution". It's all about
this condition, the who, what, when, where, why, etc. He said he has done a lot of research since he wrote the book, so the book is a little dated but it is a great place to start to get some information and to understand that you are not crazy, that your condition is real. I bought a copy online and refer to it when I have those bad days. There is an at home kit that your doctor can order through a company called QuinTron. jt80, is that the one you have? You should try it; it may finally give you an answer. I know when I finally got an answer, it was a huge weight off my mind and helped my emotions so much. I finally stopped thinking I was dying, it just felt like I was. Don't get me wrong, I still have bad days because I guess I wanted a cure the minute I had a diagnosis, but that hasn't been the case. My husband had a great piece of wisdom for me the other day when I couldn't stop crying: He said, "you went a year and a half with no diagnosis, no help and no hope. You finally have an answer and someone who will help you, you have to give him some time to undo the damage of the year and a half you suffered." Like I said before, I am hopeful that I will someday be normal again, that we all will.
