Hi,

I have been posting in the Cronic pain forums, but I got a call from the GI clinic yesterday that an IBS bloodtest came back positive. I won't rewrite everything, so here is a link to the posts about me:

Infinite, I have to say I have also never heard of a test for IBS. From my understanding it is more a "process of elimination" diagnosis. You get tested for everything else and when nothing comes up positive, then you have IBS. You can be tested for the motility of your bowels and stuff like that, all of which contributes to IBS, however, I have never heard of one straight blood test that confirms or denies IBS. That isn't to say that it doesn't exist, but I've never heard of it. I agree with you that it is weird that the pain you have said you have seems to be being written off as IBS. IBS does cause some people excruciating pain, but people generally know that their pain is a result of stuff going on in the GI...it usually isn't a question. You could have IBS as a result of all the other things that are going on with you...but it doesn't sound like that is even the main source of your problems based on your problems with your spinal column. However, I'm not a doctor, but I wouldn't just drop everything. One thing I will say to you is that if you is that based on where your pain is, if you want to follow along with the GI line of thinking about your pain, then you should have your gall bladder looked at (if you still have it.) Based on where your pain is, your gall bladder might be causing you more problems than your intestines at this point. I know you said you had tests run on most of your organs which came back normal, but the gall bladder can be tricky. Anyways, good luck!

Thank you for your reply. This is the most perplexing thing. Yes, none of the "normal" triggers are present - there is no change in pain one way or another depending on diet, there is no change in "#2" as my friend Dani likes to phrase it, and there is no other serious side effects, just the lower right abdominal and right beneath the ribcage cramping and pain as mentioned. You probably missed the post where I mentioned the Gallbladder testing - thats ok, I would start skipping through by that point too ;-) I have had a HIDA scan that came back with a 76% through rate on the Gallbladder and I also have had an Ultrasound of the Pancreas, Liver, and Gallbladder. All results have been "normal".

That is the phrase that I just shudder at anymore - "normal", <my rant>cause if everything were normal doc I wouldn't be getting referred to you!<end my rant>

Thank you agin for your reply and I do appreciate the well wishes. I just started on the robinal tonight, so I will see if it helps as much as the GI Dr's nuse said it would...
