I live in Canada, I have an anal and rectal surgeon in Toronto who I saw last week.  After 15 years from giving birth to my daughter with numberous complications, he says I have barely any muscle in my anal sphincter.  I will be going to the Cleveland Clinic in Florida (I don't know when, there's a lot to deal with first) to get an artificial sphincter.  I'm so scared.  I've been doing research online as well as I've talked to the hospital to get info.  The infection rate is high and that scares the bejeezus out of me.

Try to relax and take it a day at a time. I know it's tough, but on the upside... they found your problem and have a solution. Educate yourself, but don't google yourself crazy over it. Try to put faith in life and in your physicians and just take care of yourself as they instruct you to. Best thoughts and wishes sent your way.

I am lucky that I have great family and friends, some the know the details and some that don't. I have communicated with the hospital and am very relieved that the doctor I'm going to get in Florida is a dr who's name I've seen and read as a very good dr. Dr. Wexton. I'm making another appt with my anal and rectal surgeon to fill out some paperwork for disability and an application for out of country surgery.
