I have submitted some questions to the hospital where I'll be having surgery to put in an artificial anal sphincter. The dr told me that the device is silicone and will last for my lifetime unless there are complications or I want it removed. I was very surprised that I will only have a fibre rich diet with fibre supplements. I was expecting a more extreme diet afterwards. They've also told me that my bowel movements should remain the same as they are now. I'm just waiting for an appt with my surgeon in Toronto to apply for out of country surgery and then I can book the surgery, I'm hoping to do it this summer as I get very depressed in the winter and that will slow down my healing process.
