I've been Diagnosed with IBS, but my symptoms are extremely different from others

i have recently been to my doctors after making 2 trips to the ER because of unbearable pain in my stomach and the feeling of my rate going up and constant dizziness. He told me to get an Ultrasound and to see a GI Specialist. so i did and the Ultrasound came up clear, and my GI said that i had IBS and prescribed Bentyl, my only problem being i was constipated but was quick to get past that when i started to eat better. the feelings of dizziness and pain in my stomach all started to deplete and come to a minimum while i was taking this. i was fine for about a month or so. until recently, i have been experiencing the dizziness all over again. the pain in my stomach seems to occur even when i take the Bentyl and it seems like i just feel sick when i do take it. now the pain has turned to constant uneasy feeling. i can't sleep. and when i do sleep i only sleep 2 hours at a time and feel like i'm sick. i have another appointment to see my GI when he gets back from vacation next month but i would really appreciate some feed back on something else it could be. i'm so exhausted and i'm scared to eat. i've had CT's done and there are no ulcer and its not stones. i had my blood work done and its not diabetes. i think the fact that i don't know what's wrong with me isn't helping with getting sleep. i sometimes feel the want to throw up, but i don't have anything in my stomach to throw up. any thoughts are welcome.

Have you ever had an upper scope done of your stomach? Personally to me, it sounds like gastritis - but I'm not a doctor. Have you taken any OTC PPI's such as Prilosec?

i just got laid off not too long ago so i dont have insurance and my GI said that the upper scope would be very expensive in that case so i'm waiting on my new electrical job. but thing is even if i do start working i cant work at full pace cuz of the pain i've been in. i just started taking Previcid or whatever its called. i dont remember my doctor saying anything about Gastritis but i will ask him about it. thank you

I have gastritis and I take Prilosec now. But there was one time I forgot to put in my pill box for the week. My stomach hurt pretty bad and I was feeling so sick to my stomach - I was miserable. Once I realized my mistake and started back on the Prilosec, that feeling went away. I never got dizzy tho. However, I do get a little dizzy when I take my Bentyl but that is a normal side effect to this med.

if it were gastritis, would it start effecting you at night?/ cause it seems like when ever it starts to get get late the feeling of being kinda bloated in my stomach and the pains increase making it hard for me to sleep

Hi there, I have health insurance but extremely high copays and they do not cover any procedures (they apply to our individual deductibles, of $2500.00 per person). That said I have delayed a colonosocopy but someone told me to call my GI's billing office and ask what the cost would be if they didn't bill my insurance and I paid in cash the day of the procedure. Well, it is approx. half what I would have paid in the end, after my insurance would have rejected the claim and applied the amount to our deductible.

In other words I was going to have to pay $1500.00 but when I asked about a "self pay" amount, it was around $700.

Ask your doctor's billing office what the final cost would be if you self paid and paid in cash the day of.

Until recently I hadn't heard of people doing this but apparently, it's becoming more and more common, since so many people are w/o insurance or as in my case, with inadequate insurance (I pretty much only consider our insurance now for catastrophic instances, God-forbid they ever happen).

The pain and nausea that I get from gastritis usually occurs in the late afternoon/evening. Not sure why to be honest. When it got real bad though, the nausea was around 24/7.

I'm not saying you have gastritis, but just throwing that possibility out there.

After many tests I was also told I had IBS but after not feeling better at all i went to the ER twice and both times i was told it was gastritis. It will make you feel weak, nauseated, shaky, no appetite (for me anyway), stomach burning/pains of all kinds..it is a real mess. I now take otc zegerid which has helped alot along with cutting out chocolate mostly and fatty/greasy goods that seemed to be my triggers. Have you tried a diet change or anything for possible reflux? You should ask your doctor about it since it sounds like your gallbladder is ok.

i have been changing my diet very drastically. i've been eating home made healthy sandwiches since i started having the pains again. now i dont know why this is happening cause my body and stomach was fine with that not too long ago. i will most definitely try to work out that payment plan so i can get something done. i would really like to actually know what the heck is wrong with me. i think that is part of the reason i've been having insomnia lately. that and at night my stomach wants to have no part of me sleeping. feels like i can feel my pulse in my gut come night time

If you can feel your pulse in your stomach you really need to see a doctor-also, most hospitals will work out payment arrangements-just leave your health insurance out of it-ask the doctor to perform the procedure at your county hospital-as long as you are willing to pay they will usually work with you-I would strongly recommend an upper endoscopy, but at the very least-revisit the GI doc. Hope you feel better!

Mykdell.... many people with IBS actually have Celiac Disease and are misdiagnosed. I have it, however mainly have the neuro symptoms, my sister has the IBS type symptoms from the Celiac. I did though experience constant diziness, nausea, and occasional diahrea.

The test for Celiac is only 75% accurate and most Dr. are very uneducated about the disease so getting a proper diagnosis can be difficult.

Also it is HARD to get out all gluten and people who THINK they are eating gluten free and see no results thus giving up, may have missed their chance for freedom. Gluten is in so many food people do not realize!

Even crosscontamination will keep a Celiac sick, meaning if you are eating something like lays potatoe chips that have no gluten ingrediant you will still get 100-3000 ppm of gluten simply because the product ran across the same belt. IT ONLY TAKES 50ppm to KEEP you sick! So do the research and find out how to go TRULY Gluten Free, not even ONE bite intentionally.

Hope this info helps someone who reads. ;)
