IBS?

Hi i was wondering if anyone can help with the few questions i have.

I'll explain my situation, i have noticed mucus and the odd occasion they is blood in the mucus on my stool about 6-7 month's ago i went to the doctor and he ordered me to have a colonoscopy done which i had done the 1st of August the year.

I was told there and then that they was nothing there to be seen and looked normal they took 2 biopsys and said i would get results on them within a few weeks, 3 weeks later i got a letter stating that everything came back normal and i have a open appointment for 6 months if i need to speak to the consultant again.

I was diagnosed with IBS from the Doctor not from the consultant.

Ok now i have noticed the mucus seems permanant and seems to be on my stool at every passing the blood in random and sometimes is there and sometimes it isn't like the last 2 passing there was a little bit.

I was never explained why i was having blood in my mucus and on my stool and was told everything was normal.

Is they any reason that i could be having blood in my mucus and on my stool even tho everything came back normal?

My stool is hard pellets to soft pellet's (tmi i know lol)... Had CBC done nothing there apart from my liver levels were slighty raised but i have fatty liver.

No joint pain or other problems sometimes i get abdo pain but doc said thats due to IBS... The blood is random can go with nothing for days/weeks and its only a streak/spot on my stool sometimes mixed in my mucus.

What could i ask the doctor to pursue further? because i have been to see him and he says hemms since i got the all clear on my scope since i had a bad external one but never noticed an internal one.

Thanks i will try all of the above and see how i get on i have noticed that when my stool is harder they is alot more mucus.

Hi Trev, I had the same thing for 20 years. Shocking! Went 100% Gluten Free & no problems since... Recently discovered I had helicobacter pylori (and hence the food "allergies").

Its a nasty bacteria that burrows in the lining of your stomach & certain foods flare it up & make your symptoms worse.

I found Gluten Free diet in the last few years has helped tremendously & I have loads of energy, no constipation, pain, wind, mucus in stools (sorry grose I know) 20 years later I've been diagnosed with Helicobacter (why the Doctors didn't check for that when I first started getting chronic diarrhoea, cramps, weight loss etc I don't know).

My Dad's always had stomach problems, we thought it was a genetic bad stomach. He recently had a breath test & confirmed he had Helicobacter, people living together catch it off each other & I had a blood test to confirm I have it. I've had a course of antibiotics but don't feel they have worked as I don't feel any different. I feel a lot better from eating a gluten free (regular painless BM's, not anaemic etc) , low dairy diet and avoiding Vinegar & tomatoes have stopped the diarrhoea. I need to fast & do a breath test to see if it the bacteria is still present. But I recommend anyone who is having tummy troubles, constipation, diarrhoea, anaemia, infertility, miscarriage, anxiety, depression, low energy get tested for Helicobacter Pylori ASAP. Its bacterial & so easily contracted, I wouldn't be surprised if 50-80% of the population have it. Good luck! Let me know how you go?
