Hi Eviee,
I'm on the FODMAP diet for fructose malabsorption. My Vit D and B-12 were low so I'm taking those supplements along with a multi vit. I also have SIBO (small intestina bacterial overgrowth). Both diagnoses came from breath testing at my GI docs office. I suffered with the same terrible symptoms you have for over ten years. They really limited what I did to the point that I had to plan my life around eating and what would happen afterwards. I know where every bathroom is in every business I frequent in my area. Fructose malabsorption severely impacted my quality of life. I can't believe it took a simple breath test to figure this all out...after ten years of suffering.
I'm doing so much better on the FODMAP diet, but as you already know, it's very restrictive. There is a lot of contradiction on safe and unsafe foods, so make sure your lists are up to date. Most of the research is being done in Australia. I live in the US. Watch your portion sizes of allowable foods. I find that can make a big difference. For example, I can't eat a whole orange and have to limit myself to one half a ripe banana...not a whole one. Read every label carefully. It's best to stay away from processed food. While you are learning it's best to cook for yourself so you can control what you eat without any unpleasant surprises.
I hope you are doing better with the eliminations. It's takes a lot of time to figure out the diet and truly eliminate all the unsafe foods. Eating out is very trying. I'm 6 months into this diet and am still making mistakes with food choices. I pretty much know right away if I've eaten something unsafe because the symptoms come back quickly. Best of luck.
