Hi everyone,
I'm new here and also relatively new to an irritable bowel diagnosis. I developed bloating, immense sporadic pain, dirroreah with bouts of constipation and fatigue around august last year and I was diagnosed around October. I'm not new to being ill, I've had anorexia nervosa since I was fourteen (im 21 now), though I am finally in recovery from that. I am eating enough and maintaining a healthy weight for the first time in eight years without hospital intervention. Go me! :)
Unfortunately my doctor believes that my immune system was affected by this illness, not surprisingly, and believes my bowel/stomach problems are post infectious ibs...early last yr I was not doing well and had very low white blood cell count so makes sense. I also suspect my whole gastrointestinal system was screwed up from the poor eating habits, making me a bit of a mess of symptoms.
At the moment I am working with a nutritionist who specialises in eds and I'm eating a lactose and fructose free diet, and I also limit wheat. That improved the boating symptoms at least. However overall my symptoms and especially my fatigue have been getting progressively worse. Last week I had a gastronscopy (spelling?) and a colonoscopy. My gastroentologist took biopsy and aside from some inflammation all is normal. However since the procedure I have been dead tired. I can barely move around. My symptoms are slightly worse but its the fatigue that's worrying me. It doesn't seem to be picking up. Obviously I'm worried about uni and work (my dr suggested taking time off uni) and I'm really at a loss. Dr told me proper rest will help...but I was hoping to hear some other stories? Do things get better? And what worked for you? Any imput would be greatly appreciated as I've been feeling quite alone.
Thanks in advance!
