Fisrt, a little history... I have adult ADHD, Panick attack disorder and now possibly IBS. I take nothing for the adult adhd since most have stimulants in them and help cause me to have panick attacks. I take Sertraline HCL 150mg daily for my panick attacks, and have been taking this for about four years now. The pills have been helping greatly up until recently. I say resently because this new found IBS seems to trigger my panick attacks over the pills!
This started a little over a year ago now... Basic diahreha for 3 consecutive days, cold sweats, and cramping here and there. Went to the doctor's and he prescribed me two different medications, one for a stomich infection, and the other to stop the diahreha. (Diphenoxylate-atropine for the diahreha) I was all better... for a month and a half! Then this happened every other month, then every month, then every couple of weeks, AND now once a week! One day I even lost 8 pounds just by going consistanly to the bathroom!!! I saw a gastro dr. and did MANY tests other than the colonostopy. IE Stool samples, blood tests, more stool samples, and more blood tests. Changed my diet to the extream even-no fast food what so ever, no dairy products either. (since I am now randomly lactose intolerrant as well) He said I can't even have soda or chew gum to prevent gas flare ups. I have absolutley NO carbonated drinks or caffinated either. I basically live off of turkey sandwiches and chicken... maybe even the occasional eggs and toast for breakfast.
The reason why I have yet to have a colonostopy is due to the fact that everything test's out "so perfectly" according to the doctor. He feels that this would be the very last resort to these problems. He even has me walking 30 minutes a day-wich helps a little, but not by much. I don't eat fruits and veggitables at all-which I have been slowly working on. I know this is bad, but I hate the textures to half of them out there... But I need to eat these! It has gotten to the point that on my two days off a week, I am sick. This is because these are the only days that I will allow myself to have meals instead of the single meal and small muffin type "snaks" I eat on days that I work. (to prevent a flare up)
Sorry, this is getting horribly long... I had two questions.
1) I recently had a root canal done, and the novicane litteraly wore off every 11 minutes. This has never happened before. The novicane always lasted longer than usual... So, I ask this-is it possible that a part of my body is filtering it out quickly, or even blocking it out so it won't take full effect on me? Maybe from what's causing the IBS? Or symptoms of IBS? I ask because I have 7 fillings that need to be done and now I am petrified to have the work done until I will know for sure that I won't have to have another 17 shots in two hour's time like I did with the root canal!!!
2) Second, I'm having panick attacks more frequently latley. I usually get two a year, and only when something very significant happend like I loose my job, or a family member dies. Now I'm getting them about 6x a week! I know sometimes it's fear of having another flare up of the IBS-especially in the middle of the night or when I'm at work... But could there also be some part of my body blocking the medication I take for this as well? It just seems a little too odd that I start having all these basic IBS symptoms (Since I have yet to be fully "diagnosed" by my doctor) and now my meds don't seem to work as well, and novicane last's like it's been watered down.
