Sudden nausea followed by bowel movement

I am at least 90% sure that the nausea is because of irritable bowel syndrome. Most of us associate feelings of bloating, gas pains, and diarrhea with IBS, and for many people that is the case. But for some of us, a prevalent (and sometimes almost singular) symptom is nausea, almost always without vomiting.

I know because that was *MY* symptom, where one day in Sept of 2007 I was hit by sudden nausea out of nowhere, and bloating, and it was right after I ate, and I thought I had food poisoning. The nausea stayed for a good hour, and I was so afraid I'd barf! I never did though, and finally passed gas and went #2, and felt much better afterward w/ no more nausea the rest of the day. To make a long story short, I analyzed my symptoms thereafter and discerned that they were all due to a hyperactive digestive reflex, which is what IBS is.

So...the nausea comes from your intestines having overactive waves (that are supposed to move the food along to your colon). Your vomiting center in your brain interprets that as preceeding vomiting and makes you feel nausea.

I now don't have the attacks anymore and haven't for a while. The solutions/helps: use your thoughts to control it (thinking "I'm all right, and I won't throw up; this is just my IBS and it will pass; I'm just chilling here"); avoid caffeine because it makes your digestive hyperactive; and give it time. Eventually it may (and probably will) clear itself up or at least change symptoms.

Hello folks, I am a 50 year old male diagnosed with severe IBS. I gather it is somewhat unusual for "men" to have IBS. But I have it. BIG TIME. My wife found this forum posting and emailed it to me. I have similar but different issues with nausea/dizziness/energy drain. But mine occurs after voiding either urine or stool, but not all the time. I can go two weeks without any symptoms then go empty my bladder or stool and 10 minutes later I'm hit HARD by nausea/dizziness/energy drain. It sucks the life right out of me. Dare I say - this crap sucks!!

This started up after having 12 inches of my colon removed due to Diverticulitis. I call Diverticulitis little men with machetes!! I'm truly grateful to be free of that misery but now I have to fight recurring nausea/dizziness/energy drain. My GI surgeon who did the resection says sometimes when they go into the gut the disruption caused by the surgery causes what I have. Well aint that special?! How do we FIX it?! He has me on Nortriptylene nightly, Zofran and Hycosamine as needed for the nausea/dizziness/energy drain. Sure these help somewhat but I want this crap to STOP!!!

I totally understand when some of you say your doctor looks at you like you are a freak of nature. I get that a lot in my quest to RESOLVE this. I want this to STOP! Because it stops me. It truly ruins my life. I haven't worked since Feb of this year. I am a talented Systems Engineer who has built a successful career. I stopped working because I can no longer trust "my system" to not let me and my employer down. I'm trying to figure out what next looks like. I've no clue right now.

So that's my misery. If anyone else is in the same boat I'd love to hear from ya. I'm at my wits end with this............................... I'm prone to using vastly more offensive words to describe my misery so please forgive any of the above.

Do know that I understand what this misery does to us.

I am a man as well, and I suffer with it from time to time (occasional diarrhea attacks when I eat certain foods; used to be nausea & bloating after eating), so I feel you there!!! :)

I'm in a similiar situation - what I can and can't eat, seems to change daily - My symptons aren't the same as some of these, but these are mine:
I have problems swallowing - even water - scoping showed that I was fine - a gut (no pun intended) feeling, is that I'm having problems swallowing because I have "gas" and the preasure won't let anything in - I can't even swallow air if I wanted to, sometimes. Sometimes I can eat and swallow fine - other times, within an hour, I have D, and during my movement, I feel like I'm going to throw up, sometimes i sweat and feel like crap - once I'm done with the movement - it's like a switch - all fine - Fried food definately makes it worse, which I rarely eat anymore - I can go a week and be fine, and then all of a sudden, I have to be in the bathroom 6-7 times a day for a week - what's even worse, even though I have D, I have to strain to get that out - other times, forget it - I'm going even if I don't want to. My stomach is always gurgling - and I burp, AND have gas ALL the time. Now, if I don't eat anything, I'm fine - but having problems swallowing - knowing the food is coming right back out is quite frustrating. Even water - it just builds up and eventually -I get sick - I also feel bloated all the time - Dr said he couldn't see anything scoping both ends - and even commented that I must not have followed his instructions to "cleanse" myself, because he couldn't see well- I assured him, I didn't eat (days?) and took his "drinks" all day for days - I saw Hyda scans mentioned several times - what are they? What's odd too, is for almost a year, no problems, but now it's back - I don't have much stress,, but I do think I also have IBS because if I get very nervous - I'll get D - (like a job interview) - IN anycase - I know my wife is tired of the smell - it's horrible -

I'm even on backpain meds, which should slow down my bowel movements, but no - forget it - doesn't phase it - (lortabs and morphine) and I took them for a while before this started so I know they can't be the culprit. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts - Since most of the posts are quite old - is there something better than a hyda scan now?

Help, Ive just started having nausea for most part of the day until I go to the toilet, also getting chronic neck pain. I had a neck injury that seems to be irritated by my intestine, I dont seem to understand it.
