I just signed up and haven't read too much yet. But my Mom had IBS, she is 82 now, I am her caregiver. They had also diagnosed her as lactose intolerant. She had symptoms you mention. I would say for her, I cut out all the lactose and she still had the problem. So, even though I'd give her lactose free ice cream - the problem was there. It wasn't until I cut out sugars ( which was still in the ice cream) & fructose that the symptoms diminished. So, she can't have many fruits, even watermelon.
I would say try this diet, noodles and hamburger with 7-herb ragu, cheerios, rice dream milk, bananas, water - and see if you have some improvement - she was pretty good with that. But many many foods were problematic. I would say this diet brought her to a normal gas level. I took her off all the stupid meds. Also, if you have rectal constipation - it may help to buy some nytrile gloves unpowdered and try to manually remove bm. (I buy them at Mills Fleet Farm, they use them to milk the cows, less expensive than drug store).
