I have suffered with extremely watery explosive stools for 4 years now.  At first my GYN said it sounded like IBS.  it was almost a year before I finally went to GASTRO.  I went through all the tests and meds, prednisone, etc. and nothing seems to help.  I have been seeing this doc for over a year.  Now I'm on 10mg doxipen to hopefully help slow the process down but it isn't making any difference.  Doesn't matter what I eat, turns to water, then I have very embarrassing stomach noises and gurgling.  Until I have a BM, the noise continues.  The smell is very foul and smells up my whole house.  I know at work the smell filters out of the restroom into the halls.  I don't know what else to do.  I have not really changed my diet.  I have some dairy each day if its just milk with cereal.  The colonoscopy indicated I had microscopic colitis.  Did I mention I'm a runner. This condition has really put a damper on my running ability.  I routinely stop and duck behind trees and yes have had a few accidents along the way.  I have to be absolutely sure my stomach is empty before running.  If not I'm locked into the treadmill at the gym where the restroom is just steps away.

What did the GI give you to treat the microscopic colitis? What was the reasoning given for you having this? Since by the outline you wrote, you have had this for 3 years now, why has it not cleared up?

Microscopic colitis is NOT IBS! There is always a cause for microscopic colitis though sometimes it will take some time to get to a causation.

If your original GI blows you off about all of this disruption in your life, then go for a second opinion!

just wanted you to know are not alone , sorry you are suffering too. diet has helped me some and cholystramine powder , but when the D' is bad and the your mood is low ....... its a tough battle

Hi all

I came across this discussion just from trying to find out if this is a major problem for a lot of people. I had a stomach operation because of acid reflux I had for the last 10 or 12 years and things were great up until about 2 years ago when I got diarrhoea problems more frequently. It got to the point where it was just happening each day and it seems no matter what I ate, I was dashing to the bathroom within the hour.

After seeing the doctor a few times, eventually he put me on opium drops. I would have about 4-5 of these each day before breakfast and for the rest of the day I'm good to go. I know it's not a long term fix but it works great for me as long as I don't forget to use it. In the mean time though, I will continue to look for an alternative drug free solution.

I removed my gallbladder 15 months ago I also have had episodes of the explosive diarrhea and sometimes still yellow bile.. I also have panic attacks every time i go outside as even on short trips i am terrified there is no toilets near by.I know every single toilet of the city. I dont have life anymore. In 3 occasions I didnt have time to find a toilet. 3 times, one inside the car, 2 in the streets...I have to carry spare clothes,plastic bags, and towels to protect me if I have to stop the car. Doctors prescribed me probiotics, antibiotics, duspatalin retard, Imodium...Imodium made me feel miserable. Nothing worked. Imodium avoided the diahrea but I felt pain..it looked like I would blow up. I took calcium and it worked for 1 month than diarrhea started again..will try galviscon..but I am hopeless..

You mention gaviscon. I have the fruit flavor liquid and while it's great for heartburn and acid reflux, it doesn't seem to help the diarrhea. Infact after taking it, it seems that shortly after, I have to run to the washroom. Do you think the plain would work better for this. Are you referring to capsules or the liquid form of it?
