I don't know about back pain, but remember that the gut is full of nerves and often pain can be "referred" elsewhere. I personally love how you can get shoulder pain after a colonoscopy or laparoscopy because of the gas they put in your pelvis.
Back pain is also often due to muscle spasms from poor posture, poor fitness or even stress. I had a muscle spasm in my shoulder once that froze me up completely. While getting a massage for it my massage therapist pointed out that this particular muscle group was the one used in a backhand swing. He felt that people got spasms there when they were suppressing the urge to slap someone. I thought about it and then realized - yep! I was so mad at my boss that I wanted to slap him, LOL. I worked on the emotional side of that problem and my shoulder got a lot better.
Glad to hear you are moving forward with counseling.
