can IBS cause extreme weight loss?

i am so thin from so much diarrhea 5-10 times per day for over 1 year
have other symptoms that do not indicate IBS (slightly inflamed colon wall in CT scan with iodine), but negative colonoscopy and negative biopsies.
but i am 101 pounds at 5'8 now.
i am nearly emaciated and i have neuropathy now. with chronic fatigue. and newly developed allergies.
bentyl and imodium really do not help.
i am just desperate-- i am scared.

You need to get testing done. IBS shouldnt cause severe weight loss, it can but it shouldn't. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion anyway, althought Dr's are quick to just diagnose IBS without doing any testing (been there, done that, ended up in emerg years later with a severe colitis flare) ... I'd demand testing. Start with stool/blood, and then hopefully you'll move on to colonoscopy or endoscopy

Lots of people with digestive disorders are thin, the easiest tactic is to not eat, less food less problems. But there are drawbacks to that too. I eat at home mostly where I know if there's an episode I'm near my own potty and can lay down if needed. It is not an easy life to live but it works for me.
