After a slew of recent tests (nothing wrong) and the continuation of symptoms the doctors have decided it's IBS. I am on week one of noting each meal in a diary, off Lactose, on Bentyl and noticing that peppermint tea helps, and the best help is the heating pad in the middle of my back. It stops the cramping and really makes me feel normal again, but you cannot be teathered to an electric heating pad
when at work or moving around. Any suggestions?

I don't know what kind of work you do but is it possible to have a heating pad at work? I have one both at home and at work. There is also special rice pads that you simply heat up in the microwave and they act like a heating pad. I haven't tried it but I have also heard good things about the peel and stick heat patches. Those allow more mobility and since you wear them under your clothes, people aren't able to see them. How is the food diary going? I found that helped me so much and wish I had done it sooner but I have really identified so much that I had no idea was causing me symptoms. Since everyone is different with their food tolerances, its hard to give advice as to what to avoid (although there are many common trigger foods as well). Please keep posting.

Thanks dbab for that warm welcome. We have a microwave at work and I will look into the rice pad idea. I also will look into the heat patch as this time of year I am moving around a lot at work and that might be the solution. Just started the diary, but have already noted that the same foods are OK on day one, but by day three or four they are not OK at all. Strange very strange. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum! :-)
My best advice for work would be to give yourself plenty of time to get there. Don't rush or you'll feel stressed and your IBS will get worse. Also, stay away from caffiene, sugar alcohols and apples (apple anything). Those are all a recipe for cramps and usually D.

I bought some old-style hot water bottles at a yard sale and used them a lot when I was having gall bladder attacks since my mother was overly-paranoid that I would burn down my apartment if I went to sleep with the heating pad on.  eyes

If you have a coffee maker at work with a hot water spigot, then you're all set for filling it up.  In fact, you can usually get water hot enough out of the tap, but it depends on the temperature of the hot water heater--ours in our kitchen is scalding hot, but there's not hot water at all in the bathroom. 

You can get hot water bottles at most drug stores.
