I haven't seen anything about
this, as it seems everyone continues to have IBS problems. But is it reversible? Will I one day wake up and this will be over? Has anyone been completed cured and not had a relapse?

My doc told me I'd grow out of it. After asking around on this board, I see that it doesn't seem likely.
But, I try and stay hopeful....

Mine won't be reversible until they start growing replacement organs in petri dishes. Then I can get a new gall bladder!
I haven't heard much in the way of complete cures for people, but then it may just be that people drop off the board when they aren't sick anymore and so we never hear the end results. Most people do go through some sort of remission period when their symptoms get less or even go away, but they do typically return. There's no guarantee that you will go into any kind of remission and there's no guarantee on how long it will last or how long it takes to go into it in the first place.
I think Lil was the one to point out on another posting that most all IBSers are some sort of worrier and I really don't think you can overcome IBS without first overcoming the constant anxiety. And since that seems to be a born-in personality trait, I don't know if it can ever be overcome. But it does seem that people who are going through a good spell in their lives are more likely to be doing better gut-wise than others, and that they tend to relapse during a period of prolonged stress, such as getting married, moving, losing a job or a death in the family. Then they go back to worrying about
their IBS again and it becomes a never-ending cycle until life gets so good again they can't worry about
IBS.

Amen to that Keriamon! IBS with diarrhea just started out of NOWHERE for me! I've never had this before. It jsut hit me 3 months after I got married and moved to a new town.. 3 1/2 months later, I STILL have it. I'm working on my nerves and hopefully it will fix itself.

But I'm not really a worrier or nervous person- Until this happened. Now I worry about
going out and where Im going and if they bathroom is adequate. I was travelling aboard and domestically with my friends, no problems. I used to go out to the bars every weekend. I used to eat out a lot with my friends. Then bam! One day it started and never stopped. So I really wasn't a worrier until I got symptoms.

I am not a worrier either, but, like I said, I have bowel problems because of my gall bladder (or rather lack thereof), and you can't worry yourself into or out of a gall bladder. Didn't you say you had cause to suspect yours as well?
But even with knowing why I have diarrhea, if I get really stressed--like when I ran over a puppy--that will make me worse. So there's definitely a connection there, regardless of what causes your bowel problems in the first place. When you're already out of whack, stress seems to greatly intensify it. So now that you're worried about
the D, it's just going to keep happening or even get worse. Figuring out how not to worry about
it... there's the rub. I'm afraid I can't help you much with that since I worried a lot too when I had it bad last summer!

Yeah, I thought I may have something wrong with my Gall Bladder because sometimes my D burns serverely but that is the only symptom that I have that is connected to GB. I even asked my GI and he didn't seem to think I had anything wrong with my GB but he did say If I wanted to, he would perform tests such as the hidascan, etc.

I've been Dx with severe IBS-D and I'm getting a hidascan tomorrow and an ultrasound of my gallbladder. It's like the only thing that hasn't been tested yet. I'm so tired of all of the tests. Better to do the tests though so you are sure it's IBS.

hey shelly hope those tests go okay tomorrow - I'll be asking for them soon as they are also the only things they haven't tested me for, either!
I got the D outta nowhere, too. I was all stressed out (health anxiety) at the time. Trying to treat the anxiety through therapy, medication, and relaxation techniques seems to have helped - it's not nearly as bad as it was at first. But it is still a daily thing!
Will it ever go away? I hope so, at least for a remission for a while! My aunt has it and she gets times when she will be all better for a while- says she does know it is during stressful times when it returns.

An ultrasound is nothing to fuss about
unless you are very tender, then it can hurt some when they press on you. The hidascan involves getting a line put in so they can give you a couple of injections, one of which may make you nauseated--it did me. But other than that, it's just a matter of laying still for 30 minutes. So it's not a big deal either. So if you wonder about
the old GB, it's worth having them done to get it checked out. My advice is always to have it done when you are having problems. My gall bladder symptoms would come and go and when I had my tests run when I was not having any symptoms, I came back okay. Several years later, with the exact same symptoms, I came back very not okay.
IBS Sufferer, if it's not your GB--and you can have too much bile in your stools from just having IBS--then you should still ask about
Welchol. That's what I take to absorb my excess bile and that keeps me from having D. Someone else on this board who had a good gall bladder got put on it or Questran one to stop the D. I always recommend the Welchol because I know it works for me and for my m-i-l; some people on here have complained that the Questran gave them bad gas/cramps, something I haven't had a problem with on the Welchol. But, as you know, not everything works the same for everyone.
