Frequent loose stools and constipation in the same day?

 I was diagnosed with IBS about 4 years ago. I have never had this happen until today. I know the symptoms say that you can alternate between the two but both in the same day?

 Anyone else experienced this?

yes, and unfortunately quite frequently.  Good luck and it will pass eventually.

Yep. Definitely started out the day slightly constipated, only to get more and looser stools as the day goes on.

Not just in the same day, but in the same sitting...starting off with formed and going to loose and even vice-versa.

Oh pb4 I hear ya loud and clear, I can start off being loose and almost like water and bam, totally blocked up and 10 minutes later sort of loose, and vise versa, it drives me crazy cause I have rectal prolapse and this only makes it sooo much worse....
my life is loose poop-constipated-major D-constipated and after I have strained my guts out ----blood,then gas and bam back to the loose stuff again....lol....isn't this just great,

Yes, very familiar with it. Notice I have UC AND IBS-A so never know what kind of day it can be... will frequently go back and forth in the same day.

IBS-A...whoa, that's a new one...I could think of a few things the "A" would stand for but I better not risk it...LOL!

Sorry dbab for giving you a hard time with what I'm sure is a type-o, but I couldn't resist, today's been one of those days..."girlie" days and I'm completely wiped out...I should probably take iron tabs for these times of the month, but I already feel like I take enough as it is.

IBS-A, pb4, is for "alternating" as in having both constipation and diarrhea. That kind sucks worst of all because you can't treat one kind without getting the other.

I'm with all of you.... I have IBS-A so I frequently go from small hard poops to D within an hour. Lovely.

Yeah Ive had this. Can be constipated so bad in the morning and have rabbit pellets all morning and then I get loose ribbon like stools later on and then go back to rabbit pellets!!! Very strange. I get loose stools a lot when I'm anxious too.

Yeah still struggling here . I did buy a bottle from garden of life of something called Primal Defense Probiotic taking 2 a day . this am i acturally could control my bowels . It also could be the Cymbalta helping , Been taking 20 mg a day for 5 days . I will see psychiatrist tomorrow 17th and see what we r going to do from here . still on my klonapin and zoloft also . I cant believe I have never suffered w/ IBS-D I have been through severe dep& anx, panic attacks , never had a D problem . This all started 3 mo's ago when i found out about my dad having prostate cancer . I totally lost it and haven't been right since . I had a wonderful 5 yrs with the zoloft and now I am all to hell .

How did your apt with the Psychiatrist go?
